Bomag BW90AD-5 and BW120SL-5: vibration and working limits

BW90AD-5: check drum coverage, wetting and the vibration setting

The BW90AD-5's working width describes its drum coverage, while the dimension schedule separately gives the machine's overall width. Measure the access opening against the whole roller. Drum coverage alone does not establish clearance beside a wall or gatepost.

BOMAG's PRUS46200010 Sa06 sheet provides two vibration-frequency settings and a much smaller nominal amplitude than the earlier reference entry. Frequency describes repetitions; amplitude describes movement. They cannot be substituted for one another when comparing a machine's settings.

Record both before selecting the setting for a thin asphalt repair.

The pressure sprinkler has an interval switch, and each drum has spring-loaded scrapers that can tilt away. During a demonstration, observe wetting across the drum and check scraper contact. A full water tank does not show that every nozzle works.

The hydrostatic service brake and hydromechanical parking brake also have separate entries; demonstrate their functions separately.

BW120SL-5: travel speed and vibration speed have different limits

For the BW120SL-5, the technical sheet lists a lower working-speed limit with vibration than its maximum travel speed. A travel-speed quotation therefore does not establish its permitted vibrating working pace. The same table separates gradeability without vibration from gradeability with vibration; it is not a universal instruction to work every slope at the larger value.

Its Kubota D1703DI engine entry belongs to the emissions version and document edition identified in the sheet. The later Stage V/Tier4f output differs from the older reference rating, while the model name remains familiar. Match the engine plate and edition before using a power figure to compare a used roller.

CECE operating weight with ROPS, gross weight and static linear load are different measurements. Static linear load spreads the stated mass over drum width; it is not the exciter's centrifugal force. Keep those rows separate when comparing compaction equipment.

An ECONOMIZER description does not establish that the roller has one

BOMAG's product page describes ECONOMIZER's compaction indication, but lists ECONOMIZER with asphalt-temperature display among optional equipment. A basic hourmeter or water-level display is not proof of that option. Ask to see the named system operating on the offered machine.

The BW120SL-5 list also distinguishes the adjustable standard seat from an optional sliding seat with a second travel lever. That changes the operator-position comparison near drum edges. Likewise, a brochure's single-point lifting device and lashing eyes serve different transport tasks.

Identify the fitted lifting point and use the machine's lifting and tie-down instructions.
