CX31B ZTS and CX36B ZTS: the cab changes the envelope

CASE's European B-series brochure separates canopy and cab working ranges. The cab version does not share every canopy clearance figure even when the dipper has the same length. Its minimum swing radius and maximum digging height occupy different columns.

Match the operator enclosure as well as the arm; choosing the tallest canopy figure for a cab machine overstates the available loading envelope.

The optional long dipper increases depth and ground reach on each model, while reducing dipper breakout force. Bucket breakout stays unchanged in that schedule. A longer arm is therefore useful for reaching a trench without repeatedly moving the tracks, but it is not the stronger arm for breaking material loose.

The CX36B's standard arm and chassis are longer than the CX31B's, so the two machines should not be treated as one engine with a different badge.

Counterweight and track choices affect the ZTS claim

In standard form the upper structure rotates within the track width. CASE also offers a bolted counterweight for high-stability work. That option adds weight and extends the rear radius.

An auction description saying ZTS does not establish the rear clearance of a unit wearing that additional weight. Examine the back of the machine before applying the standard envelope to work beside a fence.

Rubber and steel tracks are interchangeable according to this brochure, but their listed operating weights and ground pressures differ. The cab adds another weight difference. Track-ground length is shorter than overall crawler length, and the larger machine uses a wider track gauge.

Keep those measurements separate when assessing support on soft ground.

Service access and the correct engine edition

The dated European schedule identifies a three-cylinder Yanmar 3TNV88P-PYB under Stage 2 rules. Later regional reference entries on this page are retained separately; that brochure does not establish a Tier 4 certificate for every B-series serial number. Its paired axial-piston pumps and additional gear pump are also listed individually, which explains why a main-pump-only flow entry differs from the combined delivery.

Hydraulic components sit together on the right, behind a hinged panel, with a lower deck that unbolts independently. Engine filters and the water separator are reached through the revised rear access. The polyethylene fuel tank sits at the left rear and fills from ground level.

Those access points give a buyer specific places to inspect for damaged covers, leaks or neglected filtration, beyond simply watching the boom move.
