CASE CX490D arms, chassis and emissions editions

Choose the CX490D front before comparing lifting figures

CASE's July 2018 North American sheet pairs a 6,980 mm boom with several arm lengths. The 3,380 mm reference arm is only one choice; shorter and longer arms have their own working ranges and load tables. The sheet provides separate charts for fixed-sideframe LC and retractable-undercarriage machines.

Each chart names the bucket it includes. A lifting figure without its radius, height, lifting direction and front arrangement cannot describe the whole CX490D range.

The dimensional drawing also distinguishes clearance beneath the upperstructure from minimum ground clearance. For the fixed chassis those are 1,330 mm and 535 mm respectively. Retraction changes the track envelope, while that chassis has its own clearance and transport-height schedule.

A single clearance entry should never stand in for all these dimensions.

Keep the D-series launch specification with its emissions edition

CASE introduced the CX490D alongside the CX500D in September 2016 as replacements for the CX470C. The mass-excavation CX500D has a larger bucket cylinder and different attachment geometry. Its bucket capability is not an upgrade automatically fitted to a CX490D.

The launch release describes Tier 4 Final aftertreatment using SCR and a diesel oxidation catalyst, without a particulate filter regeneration requirement. It also identifies optional hydraulic counterweight removal. That option matters when planning transport and assembly; its presence must be established on the actual machine.

The rear camera and monitor described in the release do not make every later camera or lighting package standard.

The European Stage V brochure describes changed equipment

The later European publication identifies an Isuzu VE-6UZ1X and lists a particulate treatment system alongside SCR. Applying the earlier no-filter statement to that edition would give the wrong service expectation. Its hydraulic controls include torque control, boom economy, swing relief and spool-stroke control.

Automatic idle and timed shutdown are separately switchable functions.

Stage V undercarriage tables distinguish carrier-roller counts on fixed and retractable frames, even though both use nine lower track rollers per side. Read the chassis column. The same brochure specifies different working pressures for excavation, boosted excavation, swing and travel; the main-pump flow is not an attachment's approved flow setting.
