History and service record of 850 and 850 X-Tier E-Drive

  • 850J hydraulics losing pressure. A Heavy Equipment Forums poster with a John Deere 850J says the hydraulics lose pressure when lifting the blade to a full stop at or above 50 percent throttle, after which the blade lowers slowly and will not lift until the engine is restarted; he found a pressure transmitter with a broken wire at its three-pin connector, and a reply said to check pilot pressure, load sense differential pressure and system pressure. John Deere 850J WLT hydraulic issues, Heavy Equipment Forums.
  • 850J versus a D6R for tile plowing. Another thread weighs a 2006 850J with 30 inch pads and 4,500 hours against a 2006 D6R LGP with 6,500 hours priced $9,000 higher, with replies saying the Cat resells better, the 850 handles a little better and that local service matters most. 6r vs 850j, Heavy Equipment Forums.
  • X-Tier concept at ConExpo. Equipment Journal reported that the 850 X-Tier was shown as a concept machine at ConExpo 2023 with an exclusive dual path electric drive, and that at the time a release date had yet to be announced. John Deere delivers a preview of its hybrid 850 X-Tier dozer, Equipment Journal.
  • How the dual path electric drive works. Equipment Journal explains that the 850 X-Tier starts with a 9-litre diesel engine, sends its power through a generator to inverters and then to electric drive motors attached to the final drives, and quotes Deere's Kathleen Roberts saying the two motors mimic a hydrostatic drive with infinite speed control, power management and on-the-go steering. John Deere delivers a preview of its hybrid 850 X-Tier dozer, Equipment Journal.
  • Launch of the production X-Tier. Equipment Journal reported that Deere rolled out the all-new 850 X-Tier alongside upgrades to the 700, 750 and 850 P-Tier dozers, with 14 per cent more glass area, an Advanced Vision System and a tilting cab that gives quick access to the E-Drive components. John Deere's new 850 X-Tier dozer features E-Drive tech, Equipment Journal.
  • P-Tier upgrades. According to Equipment Journal, the 850 P-Tier upgrades added SmartGrade options from EZGrade to 3D, larger touchscreen displays, heated and ventilated seat options and an auto-load and carry function that adjusts blade settings to ground conditions. John Deere's new 850 X-Tier dozer features E-Drive tech, Equipment Journal.
  • The 850L that came before. Equipment World's 28 June 2019 report said the 850L replaced the 850K with a 9.0-liter engine of 225 horsepower, a 10-percent horsepower increase, torque up 23 percent to 831 lb-ft, an Eco mode cutting fuel use by up to 20 percent and a cab that was 15 percent bigger with noise down 27 percent. John Deere introduces 850L crawler dozer, Equipment World.
  • 850L undercarriage and blade. Equipment World reported that the 850L used an eight-roller design with 130 inches of track on the ground, a dual-path hydrostatic transmission with pumps 13 percent larger than the K-Series, a 172-inch Power Angle Tilt blade and a mainframe up to 60 percent thicker in some areas. John Deere introduces 850L crawler dozer, Equipment World.
