The 4708M, 4709M and 4710M need their own transmission identity

Massey Ferguson's 4700M publication separates the conventional synchronized gearbox from Dyna-2. The latter adds powershift ratios and uses its own control buttons. The older 3308, 3650 and plain 4708 records in this comparison do not acquire that equipment simply because their power falls in a similar band.

The manufacturer's product page also separates the basic shuttle from the optional Power Shuttle. Direction selection and a powershift ratio change are different functions. When inspecting an offered M-Series tractor, identify the gearbox and the actual left-hand and gear-lever controls instead of inferring the transmission from the advertised number of speeds.

Brake-to-Neutral is presented as an option that operates the clutch when the brake pedal is pressed. A tractor equipped with it can respond differently during loader shuttling from one without it. Record the selected function before diagnosing a loss of drive associated with braking.

Dyna-2 buttons and Comfort Control do separate jobs

The English brochure describes a thumb button for the powershift ratio and another button for clutch control. A console rocker offers a second way to select the ratio. These controls are not the same as the Comfort Control adjustment, which changes the rate of shuttle-clutch engagement.

Its Speedmatching function selects the appropriate powershift speed. The optional creeper adds a different low-speed capability. A used tractor's ability to change between its normal ratios therefore does not establish that creeper equipment is fitted.

The brochure identifies the 4700M's Stage V engine package with DOC, SCR and a soot catalyst. This is a particular emissions arrangement, not a reason to borrow the regeneration instructions for an unrelated diesel particulate-filter installation. Match the engine label and its maintenance publication.

Implement oil supply and PTO engagement stay separate

The same publication distinguishes the pump supplying internal services from the auxiliary pump serving the implement circuit. Adding their headline flows does not establish the flow available at an attachment coupler. Identify the fitted valve arrangement and the attachment's return requirements.

The independent PTO uses an electro-hydraulically engaged clutch. PTO-speed selections are separate equipment choices; a tractor with the required engine power still needs the correct shaft and speed for the implement. The M-Series information here applies to its named configuration, while the earlier tractor columns retain their original specifications.
