Sumitomo SC500-2: model revisions, boom charts and transport pieces
SC500-2 documents change at the model revision
HSC’s Sumitomo archive separates the SC500-2 into versions before and after the model change, with the later entry beginning at machine 1300. The linked Japanese specification sheets do not give identical capacity conditions. The earlier main-boom sheet prints fifty tonnes at a 3.7-metre radius; the later sheet prints fifty tonnes at four metres.
Both reach a listed maximum standard-boom length of 51.80 metres. An unchanged headline tonnage therefore does not establish that the load charts are interchangeable.
Check the actual serial and the chart supplied with the crane. HSC links separate crane, tower and technical documents for the two revisions. A tower attachment requires its own configuration information.
The ordinary crawler-crane diagram and standard-boom chart do not describe every attachment that can be assembled on an SC500-2.
Standard boom, short boom and hook reeving
The later specification gives a 12.20-metre basic standard boom, compared with 9.80 metres for the short-boom arrangement. Their maximum lengths differ too. The boom-and-jib combination chart marks permitted assemblies individually, including jib length and offset.
Finding a boom length in the main table is not enough to approve a jib combination.
Reeving limits the hook arrangement independently of the boom’s structural capacity. The later sheet pairs its fifty-tonne main-hook rating with nine rope parts, while the auxiliary hook is listed at 5.8 tonnes on a single part. The main hook itself weighs 750 kilograms in that document.
Include hook and lifting-accessory weight as the chart’s notes require. A crane’s nominal class is not the available payload at a long working radius.
The standard-boom, jib and short-jib charts have separate notes and columns. Their ratings assume a level surface and the specified crawler position. The document calls for the crawlers to be extended for lifting.
Use the full operating chart and lifting procedure for the actual assembly; neither an archive summary nor an example row is a lift plan.

The post-change technical sheet lists a 33,800-kilogram main assembly with the bottom boom in the standard arrangement, but 32,000 kilograms for the assembly with the boom removed. Counterweights, boom sections and hook blocks appear as separate transport pieces. Ask which components are included in a quoted shipping weight.
The crane’s complete operating mass cannot be treated as the heaviest single transport load.
The same sheet separates optional third-drum equipment from the ordinary crane equipment, along with optional walkways and access arrangements. Check the installed pieces before comparing a sale listing with the transport schedule. The listed engine, working radius and maximum boom length alone do not reveal which transport pieces accompany the machine.
