The A25D name spans engine and chassis variants

Volvo's archive dates the A25D and A30D change from D10 to D9 engines to November 2003. It then distinguishes the later D9B emissions edition introduced in the United States and Europe at different dates. A D-Series serial plate and engine identity matter more than an undated seller's power figure when choosing service information.

The archive also keeps the A25D four-wheel and six-wheel chassis as separate products. The lighter four-wheel machine is not evidence that a six-wheel A25D has the same empty weight or body volume. Preserve that chassis distinction when checking a haulage quote or interpreting an old specification listing.

Read the early brake and retarder descriptions separately

The original A35D/A40D brochure describes dry disc brakes on the A35D and oil-cooled wet discs on the A40D. Its engine brake combines compression braking with an exhaust brake, while a hydraulic retarder sits in the transmission. The foot-operated retardation arrangement brings these functions together; it is not simply another name for the wheel brakes.

That early publication also introduces single-stage, double-acting dump cylinders on the A35D. Its load-and-dump brake holds the truck during loading or unloading by applying brakes and placing the transmission in neutral. These descriptions identify actual fitted systems, rather than a promise that an old truck's braking or body controls remain healthy.

Later D-Series literature adds a brake option

The combined 2002 D-Series brochure lists sealed wet brakes as an option for the A35D, while retaining wet brakes for the A40D. Consequently, an early brochure's standard description cannot settle the installed brake type on every A35D. Check the actual equipment before ordering brake parts.

The same combined document gives the A30D a payload of 28,000 kilograms and a separate unloaded operating weight. The earlier reference had a shortened payload entry and reused a payload-sized number as empty weight. The corrected rows below keep those two quantities separate and retain the rejected transcriptions for comparison.

Find the D10 service points described in the right edition

For the D10 A25D/A30D, the combined brochure shows a folding front grille with access to the remote filter bank and identifies a swing-out radiator. It separates the transmission, dropbox and hydraulic-tank fill quantities. Those are practical locations and compartment names to match against a service invoice.

An invoice saying only oil service leaves open which of these systems was drained during the recorded service, and access through the front grille does not make the listed filters interchangeable.
