Cat 215B, 215B SA and 219D LC: swing components, transport and cylinders

215B swing motor, brake and reduction drive are separate assemblies

Caterpillar's SENR2172 vehicle-systems procedure treats the swing motor and swing brake as preliminary removals before removing the swing drive. The drive is the reduction assembly below them. A seller's statement that the swing motor was repaired therefore does not describe the condition of the reduction gears, bearings or output cartridge.

The illustrated removal also requires the output pinion to clear the opening in the upper frame before the drive is lifted away. Caterpillar gives different handling weights for the complete drive, its cover and its output cartridge. Those are separate lifting jobs, not three alternative weights for one loose component.

Plan support around the assembly actually being removed.

Inside that drive, bearing cages carry shims and seals. The dismantling sequence identifies several cages before the cover and gears come out. An external oil leak, a failed motor and excessive reduction-drive play are different findings.

Record the location of the complaint before assuming that replacement of one named swing component addresses all three.

The former-model chart uses different front conditions for transport and reach

Caterpillar's Performance Handbook lists 215B LC separately from 219D and 219D LC. The two 219D rows carry different approximate operating weights despite sharing their flywheel-power entry. Keep the LC designation when comparing hauling requirements.

The chart does not support substituting the lighter row merely because an engine rating matches.

Its dimensional footnote describes shipment with a medium stick and the bucket curled underneath. Maximum reach, however, is given for a one-piece boom with the longest stick. Combining that reach with the transport dimensions would mix front arrangements.

The lifting column has another condition: over the front at the stated radius with the specified boom and stick. It is not a complete all-direction lift chart for every point around the tracks.

Match the hydraulic cylinder position before choosing a seal kit

Bulldog's CT-2435808 application page includes both boom and bucket uses under its 215/215B entries. It also qualifies other listed boom applications by front arrangement and serial range. The model name alone consequently leaves out part of the supplier's fitment information.

Record which cylinder is leaking and retain the complete machine prefix when making the match.

The same page supplies bore and rod dimensions alongside the application list. Verify the installed cylinder as well as the catalogue entry if the front equipment has been changed. A kit appearing against a related excavator does not establish that every cylinder on this 215B or 219D uses it.
