Cat 226B: auxiliary controls, load ratings and service
Original 226B drive pumps and attachment pumps have different jobs
Caterpillar's September2005 brochure identifies the original 226B with a turbocharged 3024C engine. Check the machine identification before borrowing their engine or refill figures.
The original drive uses variable-displacement piston pumps feeding closed hydrostatic loops. Separate fixed-displacement pumps supply the loader and auxiliary circuit. The optional high-flow arrangement combines gear-pump delivery.
A machine being hydrostatic therefore does not prove that it has high-flow attachment hydraulics.
Its basic joystick already provides momentary and continuous auxiliary flow. Proportional control and a work-tool electrical connection belong to the deluxe control options. Check both the hydraulic function and the electrical connector against the attachment's requirements; extra buttons alone do not identify the installed pump package.
The brochure gives separate standard and high-flow operating weights, and a counterweight-dependent rated capacity. Record those options when comparing machines.

Caterpillar's machine-preparation instruction names the original MJH serial range and its 3024C-powered configuration. It puts visual inspection and measurements first, operational checks next, and the required tests and adjustments last. A cold demonstration or an isolated gauge reading skips part of that sequence.
The instruction specifies an operating-temperature band for the factory-filled hydraulic oil and measures it at the filter canister. Ask a technician to record the fluid, measurement location and temperature with a flow or pressure result. Otherwise two readings may not represent the same test conditions.
The preparation also requires level ground, the bucket lowered, blocked tyres and an exclusion barrier. System pressure must be released using the separate pressure-release procedure before an adjustment. These requirements make a driveway trial with bystanders unsuitable for pressure adjustment.
Arrange the specified setup and the matching technical procedure with a qualified technician instead. The published preparation is a prerequisite; it does not supply the pressure-release steps or an adjustment target by itself.

Caterpillar's parts entry for the original MJH serial range identifies the utility-bucket line group as part of a grapple-and-cylinder assembly. It lists male and female couplings, formed tubes and hose assemblies separately. That is more specific than ordering “226B auxiliary hoses”.
Check the attachment's assembly identification as well as the carrier serial number. A hose shown for that utility grapple does not establish the hose required by another tool. The catalogue also marks some hose entries for its hydraulic-information system, so matching the assembly requires more than copying a visually similar hose.
