320B controls separate engine power from hydraulic priority
The B-series instrument panel has separate choices for power mode and work mode. Selecting boom priority changes how combined hydraulic demands are served; it is not simply another engine-speed setting. Establish both selections before judging a 320B that seems slower in one combined movement than another.
Power mode and travel response do not have identical relationships
The original 320B/330B training chapter distinguishes Power Up, Economy and Fine Control. Its application table shows the economy setting using a different engine-output relationship during travel than during excavation. Comparing a road-travel demonstration with bucket digging can therefore compare different commanded conditions.
The work-mode switches select one priority at a time. Selecting another cancels the previous choice, and the selected switch state is remembered after the engine is stopped. A machine can restart with the previous operator's work preference still selected.
The chapter also distinguishes Customer Mode from hammer setup. Customer Mode stores a group of engine, hydraulic, AEC and travel settings; hammer setup requires the service mode. An attachment problem should not be addressed by randomly altering the customer's stored operating profile.

The original 320B L brochure distinguishes the longer reach linkage from a mass-excavation arrangement intended for greater digging force and larger buckets. The stated maximum reach is not a promise that the same front can use the mass configuration's bucket at that reach.
Its bucket-selection table associates compatibility symbols with stick choice and material density. The assumptions include the linkage's position, bucket curl and fill condition. Identify the actual stick, bucket and material before using a maximum capacity from that table.
Automatic idle and pump regulation are different observations
The brochure describes a one-touch idle button on the right control lever and an automatic engine-speed reduction during light or absent load. It separately describes underspeed control adjusting pump output to maintain engine speed. A drop in rpm while idle and a change in hydraulic demand while digging should not be recorded as the same symptom.
For maintenance, the brochure locates the pilot filter and its oil-sampling provision separately from the main hydraulic filter. Keep the sampled circuit with the result. A pilot-system sample does not by itself describe the condition of every hydraulic component.
