Cat 330D MH fronts, magnet hydraulics and serial breaks

Match the scrap front, cab riser and magnet package

The 330D MH has purpose-built material-handling fronts. Cat's AEHQ5697 specifies different reach envelopes for the short and long sticks. Its larger grapple matches the shorter arrangement; the longer front is described with a smaller grapple.

An attachment purchase therefore needs the front identified before capacity is compared.

The manual-tilt riser folds the cab forward for shipping. The optional hydraulic riser raises it during work. Neither raised cab height belongs in a transport-clearance calculation.

Cat also separates the hydraulic magnet-generator circuit from grapple rotation and the two main pumps. The 20 kW generator package can power a specified magnet, but its auxiliary-pump flow is not the grapple's rotate flow.

External debris filters protect the cooling package. Automatic fan reversal is optional. The equipment schedule says automatic engine-speed control does not function while the hydraulic generator operates, so a magnet-equipped machine needs that operating condition considered when checking its idle behaviour.

A hydraulic repair record should name the assembly

Cat's original pump-assembly procedure for PEL machines identifies swashplates, piston groups, port plates and control spools within the main hydraulic pump. The illustrated work continues through separate valve and solenoid installation. A receipt saying only “pump repaired” leaves those components unclear.

Ask which rotating groups, control parts and seals were renewed and what testing accompanied the repair.

The procedure includes loaded springs and heated-bearing installation. Those details explain why a paint finish or a newly fitted seal does not establish that a complete pump rebuild was performed. Use the component record and the matching service procedure.

Final-drive serial breaks remain important on an older handler

The same Cat service publication divides final-drive disassembly at C5K223 and LEM188, with PEL machines listed in the later procedure. The earlier and later instructions show different carrier arrangements and handling tooling. A used final drive advertised for a “330D” needs its actual arrangement matched to the handler's prefix and serial range.

The model name alone cannot settle that parts decision.
