- Next generation announced in 2025. Caterpillar announced the next generation 440 and 450 backhoe loaders on 7 October 2025, with new engines, an improved hydraulic system and more versatility than the models they follow. - C3.6 engine. Construction Equipment reported that the next generation 440 and 450 use the C3.6 engine, which raises the gross power rating of the 440 by 9 percent to 130 horsepower. Caterpillar 440, 450 backhoe loaders, Construction Equipment.
- Shared platform with the 416 to 430. Caterpillar senior product consultant David Young said the change aligns the 440 and 450 with the next generation 416 through 430 series in both engine platform and electronic architecture.
