  • Steering cylinder leak and fuel priming. A 5105 with a badly leaking steering cylinder, a 2004 5105 that would not hold prime and needed starting fluid after sitting, and a 5105 whose primer diaphragm blew, where a reply listed a fuel line obstruction at the tank outlet and the fuel shut-off solenoid as candidates. History and service record of 5105MH and 5105ML

  • What the 5M replaced. Tractor.com's 2012 review says the 5M series replaced the 5025 series, is about 700 lb heavier on average with the extra weight in the transmission housing, chassis, hitch, axles and loader mounts, and is built in Augusta, Georgia. 2012 John Deere 5105M Cab Tractor Review, Tractor.com.
  • The 4.5 L engine. The 5105M's PowerTech E 4045 is rated 105 gross hp at 2,100 rpm with 90 PTO hp and 420 ft-lb of torque from 1,400 rpm, using wet sleeve liners, a balanced crankshaft and common-rail injection up to 23,000 psi. 2012 John Deere 5105M Cab Tractor Review, Tractor.com.
  • Hydraulic flow split. A tandem pump gives 24.7 gpm, split into 6.3 gpm for power steering and 18.4 gpm for implements, with the three-point hitch given priority so an implement can be raised at the end of a pass without closing the remotes. 2012 John Deere 5105M Cab Tractor Review, Tractor.com.
  • Electronics and warnings. Tractor.com's review says the 5105M's ECU provides warnings or even complete system shutdown to prevent more costly repairs, and that vibration is very low thanks to a balanced crankshaft and heavy-duty components. 2012 John Deere 5105M Cab Tractor Review, Tractor.com.
  • Three transmissions. The review lists three 5105M transmissions, 12-speed forward and 4-speed reverse, 16/16 and 32-speed forward and 16-speed reverse, with the 32F/16R Electrohydraulic PowrReverser giving clutchless direction changes through a stalk on the left of the steering column and wet hydraulic clutching for long life. 2012 John Deere 5105M Cab Tractor Review, Tractor.com.
  • Hi/low toggle. A hi/low toggle by the gear lever varies forward speed by as much as 20 percent without clutching, which the reviewer found useful when brush hogging moves from heavy to lighter brush. 2012 John Deere 5105M Cab Tractor Review, Tractor.com.
  • Electrohydraulic package. Choosing the Electrohydraulic option also brings an electrohydraulic three-point hitch, a 540 and 540E PTO and engage-on-the-go 4WD, and triple rear deluxe hydraulics add no-detent, continuous flow and kick-out modes. 2012 John Deere 5105M Cab Tractor Review, Tractor.com.
  • Cab weight and noise. The ROPS cab adds about 1,100 lb, has two wide doors, a seat with weight adjustment from 100 to 275 lb, and the reviewer measured 80 to 81 dBA at 2,100 rpm, about an alarm clock. 2012 John Deere 5105M Cab Tractor Review, Tractor.com.

MH crop clearance and ML canopy clearance solve different problems

The MH and ML suffixes identify different crop-access priorities. Deere's Canadian 5105MH page describes a high-crop tractor with front-axle clearance for working over a crop. It also offers open-station and cab choices.

Neither the engine rating nor the presence of a cab establishes the usable clearance over plants: axle clearance and the operator enclosure answer different space questions. Check the actual tires and axle arrangement as well as the station fitted to the tractor.

The same MH page describes a premium panorama-roof cab as an upgrade, with upward visibility intended for loader work. Its cab comparison separates that roof from equipment shared with the standard enclosure. A used machine advertised simply as a “premium cab” needs the actual roof identified before that description is used to judge loader visibility.

The feature is not evidence that a low-profile ML has the same roof or the same overhead envelope.

The New Zealand 5105ML description instead emphasizes moving through orchards and vineyards. Its factory-installed cab has shielding around the doors, reinforced glass and an integrated door handle; optional limb lifters address canopy interference. These are useful details to inspect when branches contact the cab.

They do not justify treating the enclosure as proof against all branch damage.

Deere also distinguishes standard and narrow ML axles. A narrow-axle offering is a configuration choice, not the width of every 5105ML. For a vineyard purchase, inspect the axle, tires and cab together and measure the actual route through the vines.

For an orchard tractor, identify whether limb lifters are fitted rather than assuming they come with the low-profile designation. The regional product page offers both cab and open-station versions, so its cab description should not be assigned to the open tractor's seating, glass or controls.

Deere's November 2025 North American ordering book provides a further configuration boundary: its 5105ML cab package explicitly includes a fixed windshield and no sunroof. That is different from the MH panorama-roof upgrade described above. The ordering book also distinguishes engine power from rated PTO power and specifies electrohydraulic PTO engagement with a wet clutch.

Match the implement's PTO requirement to the PTO rating and shaft selected in the build, rather than treating the engine number as available shaft power. This dated equipment package supplements the earlier comparison; it does not establish that every historical ML has that enclosure, engine specification or hydraulic option.
