Deere 6100B to 6140D: engines, clutch and generation changes

The 6100B and 6110B are not the same engine with two ratings

Deere's sub-Saharan open-station sheet identifies a four-cylinder 4045T in the 6100B and a six-cylinder 6068T in the 6110B. The larger tractor also has a longer wheelbase. An engine-service quotation based only on the shared B suffix would miss that difference.

Record the engine identification as well as the tractor model when obtaining filters, injection information or overhaul parts.

Both tractors use a dry-clutch, nine-forward/three-reverse TSS arrangement in that publication. The PTO is independently controlled and mechanically operated. Those descriptions refer to separate functions: a PTO specification does not establish that directional changes use an electrohydraulic shuttle.

For loader work, identify the actual forward/reverse controls before comparing either B tractor with a PowrReverser-equipped D.

The manufacturer's rear lift figure is measured behind the hitch points, not at the ends of the links. Its listed front and rear tires also belong to different axles. The retained 6110B reference had a rear-sized tire entered under the front heading; the manufacturer sheet identifies the correct front size.

Keep the axle distinction when assessing clearance or ordering a replacement pair.

A 2013 6130D or 6140D needs a different specification column

January 2013 brochure DSAA54263 describes Interim Tier 4 PowerTech PVX engines for the 6130D and 6140D. Their rated engine speed differs from the older Tier 3 records retained here. The brochure also describes electrohydraulic PTO engagement and a wet traction clutch with the standard nine-forward/nine-reverse PowrReverser.

Applying that whole package to every older D would erase a genuine generation boundary.

Hydraulics changed too. The later publication rates flow available at a single SCV at 20 US gpm and distinguishes standard rear valves from the deluxe package with adjustable flow and detents. A float detent lets an implement follow the ground; it is not simply another pressure setting.

Establish the installed valve package when evaluating a loader or hydraulic implement.

Its standard reversible PTO shaft offers two speeds, but each has its own corresponding engine setting in the technical schedule. Do not use the engine's rated-power speed as the PTO setting by default. The listed rating point and the operating speed answer different questions.

Identify the valve and front axle before choosing a repair section

The 6100B/6110B technical manual separates Parker and Danfoss SCV repairs and gives an additional branch for the APL350 front axle. That division is useful when buying a used tractor with uncertain parts history. A model-level manual search is a starting point; photographs of the valve identification and axle plate determine which component instructions apply.
