DeereR4023–R4045 sprayers: booms, nozzle controls and service capacities

R4023 through R4045 sprayers differ in solution tank, chassis, boom and control equipment. Keep application-fluid capacity separate from fuel and hydraulic refill quantities. The original five-model matrix remains below; manufacturer documents add the configuration and service conditions needed to interpret those entries.

R4023 boom options include different plumbing

Deere's August 2022 R4023 ordering document separates 80 ft and 90 ft steel booms. For that edition, ExactApply requires designated stainless-steel plumbing configurations. Polypropylene wet-boom choices have different nozzle bodies and section valves.

A stainless tank or an ExactApply decal alone cannot identify the full nozzle-control installation.

The same document identifies a Gen4 4600 processor and display separately from application activations. AutoTrac Ready includes vehicle-side components but requires additional equipment for a working guidance system. Check receiver, processor, installed software and enabled functions together.

Those ordering descriptions apply to the specified model year; they do not establish the equipment on an earlier R4030 or R4038.

Read hydraulic reservoir and system capacities separately

The February 2019 R4030/R4038 service sheet lists a hydraulic reservoir and a hydraulic system as separate refill quantities. On R4038 it gives 26 US gal for the reservoir and 55 US gal for the system. Selecting the first hydraulic number in a listing could therefore select a different quantity.

Its R4030 schedule gives 50 US gal in both rows. Keep the model and row heading with each figure.

Filter selection also depends on engine equipment. The R4030 fuel-filter entries distinguish engine option 35D5 from 35JL and 35K3, and Final Tier 4 from Stage II. Its primary and secondary air-filter rows specify different replacement conditions.

Use the engine option and current operator manual when ordering filters; the machine's R-series number is insufficient.

Chassis width and nozzle software are separate decisions

The Canadian R4023 product description distinguishes narrow and wide axles, with hydraulic tread adjustment available only on wide machines. Tyre and rim choice can further constrain the attainable tread setting. Match axle configuration to row spacing before treating the directory's maximum width range as available on every R4023.

That page describes ExactApply turn compensation as reducing delivery inside a turn while increasing it outside. AutoSelect switches nozzles to maintain pressure; individual-nozzle control manages overlap. Multi-Rate is a later model-year 2026 capability with its own compatibility statement.

Check the installed nozzle hardware and software generation before valuing a legacy sprayer as having that later function.

Sprayer launch history and dated asking-price sample

When each sprayer arrived. Deere brought out the R4030 (800 gallon tank) and R4038 (1,000 gallon tank) in 2013 as new 4 Series sprayers, the 1,200 gallon R4045 in 2014 as the replacement for the 4940, and the R4023 in 2015 as the update to the 4620, with a 173 hp PowerTech 4.5 L engine and a 600 gallon tank. A 90-foot boom option came to the R4023 in 2016.
