Doosan DX140W, DX190W and DX210W: chassis, modes and fronts

DX140W: inspect the wheel chassis as well as the digging equipment

Doosan's original DX140W brochure describes hub-mounted disc brakes, avoiding the planetary-gear backlash associated with braking through the driveshaft. Its front axle oscillates, while the transmission sits on the rear axle. These details make a wheel-chassis inspection different from inspecting a crawler with similar engine power.

Record rocking, braking and travel behaviour separately from boom or bucket movement.

The small wheel machine also has several stabilizing arrangements. Its weight schedule distinguishes a front cradle with rear blade, cradle with rear outriggers, and blade/outrigger combinations. One-piece and articulated booms occupy separate columns.

The standard bucket's mass is included in that schedule. A transport quotation therefore needs the front, arm, bucket and undercarriage equipment identified together.

Doosan's hydraulic description separates the twin main pumps from the pilot gear pump. The auxiliary-flow control belongs to the working circuit; it is not a measurement of pilot supply. Demonstrate the installed tool with its selected flow setting, instead of judging its suitability from the total main-pump figure alone.

DX190W: work-mode selection and power selection are separate

The March 2010 Italian DX190W sheet distinguishes general excavation from trenching with swing priority. It separately describes Standard and Power engine settings. A demonstration in the trenching setting can consequently distribute the machine's response differently from a general-digging demonstration, without showing an engine defect.

Ask which controls were selected.

Its DMS service connection lets a technician record parameters such as pump pressure and engine speed for later analysis. A written diagnostic record is more useful than a seller saying the monitor was clear. The brochure's front-axle greasing points are grouped for access, giving another specific place to examine the service routine.

Bucket choices depend on material density and the front. The largest bucket entry in the schedule has no recommendation for some arm combinations. Do not treat every bucket listed in the brochure as approved for every DX190W.

Match the fitted arm before interpreting the recommendation letters.

DX210W: an articulated front changes the comparison

For the original DX210W, Doosan lists a one-piece front and an articulated front with their own arm combinations. Those arrangements have different transport and working envelopes. The shipping height belongs to the boom position, while cab height is a separate measurement; confusing the two would produce a false clearance estimate.

The articulated-boom schedule includes a positioning cylinder in addition to the lifting cylinders. A request for a replacement cylinder must therefore identify the cylinder's function and front type, not just “DX210W boom cylinder.” The brochure's measurements distinguish bore, rod diameter and stroke. They are not three alternative diameters.

Its lifting tables also distinguish chassis supports and front arrangement. A quoted capacity needs the matching chart, radius and lifting direction. A bucketless chart cannot be read as a net payload with an unidentified attachment still fitted.

Obtain the attachment mass and the machine's actual load instructions before planning the lift.
