D31, D37 and D39 dash-22: match the blade and travel controls to the job

These dash-22 dozers share hydrostatic travel controls, but their engine, track and blade combinations differ. The PX designation changes the ground-contact arrangement; it does not identify one universal blade width. A narrow-blade PX and a standard-blade PX need different clearance checks even when the tractor underneath is the same model.

Quick-Shift ranges are not a three-gear mechanical transmission

Komatsu offers Quick-Shift presets alongside continuously variable travel. The shift buttons select the travel setting; the hydrostatic controller adjusts pump and motor displacement as the load changes. During a demonstration, establish which mode is selected before judging how the dozer accelerates or responds under blade load.

The D31 and D37 use hydrostatic slowing until the machine stops, then engage their parking brakes. The absence of steering clutches therefore does not mean that these tractors have no brakes. Their parking discs are spring-applied and hydraulically released.

Look behind the D31 and D37 for cooling access

The radiator group sits at the rear, where the hydraulic fan swings upward with a gas-strut-assisted locking arrangement. Reverse cleaning and physical access are separate features. Demonstrate the fan's cleaning mode, then inspect the cores using the prescribed stopped-machine procedure.

D39 blade plumbing does not establish ripper readiness

The D39 brochure describes a load-sensing implement circuit and separate blade lift, tilt and angle functions. It explicitly requires another control valve for the ripper. A rear attachment offered with a used machine needs its valve and operating controls checked; the presence of the blade's hydraulic functions does not prove the ripper circuit is installed.

Japanese and English specifications use different measurement conditions

The Japanese catalog identifies metric horsepower as PS and distinguishes total hydraulic-oil capacity from the replacement quantity. Its bare-tractor counter-rotation radius also differs in definition from the English brochure's track-mark measurement during a pivot turn. Keep those definitions with the figures.

Neither a different power unit nor a different turning test establishes a mechanical change.

Cab equipment matters too. The Japanese D39 weight includes the PAT blade, ROPS cab and air conditioning, while the English headline weight uses a ROPS canopy. Select the equipped configuration for transport planning; the lighter tractor-only figure excludes the dozing attachment.
