HM300-5 empty weight and payload describe different loads

The HM300-5 manufacturer's weight table separates the empty truck from its loaded gross vehicle weight. The much smaller inherited entries below are rejected transcriptions. Neither is a transport weight for an empty truck. Komatsu also prints the payload in both metric tonnes and US short tons; those rounded columns should retain their own units.

The pound payload here is explicitly calculated from the rounded short-ton rating. It is not a more precise replacement for the metric rating. Likewise, dividing that quantity by the heaped body volume gives an approximate arithmetic ratio, not permission to load any material to the brim.

The installed body, actual material mass and payload indication still govern the loading decision.

The earlier power-to-weight calculation used the erroneous empty-weight entry. Its corrected denominator now comes from the manufacturer's empty-machine table. This comparison retains the historical reference's engine-power rounding rather than silently treating every old power entry as the latest brochure edition.

KTCS traction intervention differs from a transmission shift

Komatsu's brochure describes KTCS monitoring wheel speeds on the front and middle axles. Detected slip first commands the inter-axle lock; continued slip can prompt braking at the slipping wheel. The operator also has a separate inter-axle-lock rocker switch.

Note the lock state and ground conditions when describing an intervention, rather than assuming every change in wheel response is a missed gear.

The automatic countershaft transmission uses K-ATOMiCS clutch modulation. Economy and Power modes alter engine output and shift-engine-speed settings. A different upshift point between those modes is therefore not, by itself, evidence of clutch failure.

The payload meter displays tonnage inside the cab, while external lamps communicate loading status to the loading-machine operator. The brochure also describes stored payload information available through the truck controller and KOMTRAX. A seller's machine-hours reading does not substitute for those payload records when the question concerns past loading practice.

DEF and differential refill quantities must not trade labels

The manufacturer separates the DEF tank from the combined differential refill quantity. The former inherited DEF figure matches the differential compartment. Transmission, converter and retarder cooling have a combined service-refill entry of their own; that heading should not be interpreted as the total oil in every truck system.

The brochure's hoist-cylinder description is telescopic. Its pressure table and the current product page give different relief-pressure editions, so their values remain identified by source instead of being presented as a universal adjustment. Follow the serial-specific service instructions before changing a setting.
