HTC-8670 Long Boom changes more than the final reach number

The Link-Belt HTC-8670/HTC-8670 Long Boom brochure distinguishes the standard four-section boom from the LB’s longer four-section arrangement. It also assigns them different optional two-piece fly lengths. Matching a boom-length entry does not establish that a used crane includes the fly sections, pins and other equipment needed for the brochure’s maximum tip height.

Its basic telescoping mode proportions the boom sections together. A-max instead extends the inner mid-section for the specified close-radius configuration. The appropriate chart therefore depends on boom mode as well as length.

The brochure also describes CALC support positions for retracted, intermediate and extended outriggers. A configuration that fits a restricted site must be assessed using its corresponding support setup, not the largest capacity printed elsewhere in the brochure. The HTC-1170 remains a separately named earlier entry here; this later equipment description does not establish an LB conversion or CALC installation on that crane.

The HTC-8670 lifting-capacity document separately identifies main-boom and fly charts and provides deductions for auxiliary load-handling equipment. Hook blocks and a hook ball have their own weights, while an erected but unused fly has different consequences from one stowed on the base. Determine the actual lifting equipment before interpreting the net load available for the object itself.

The chart calls for the actual hook-block weight where applicable; the nominal block capacity is not its mass.

That document also separates wire-rope ratings and winch performance from the crane’s structural and stability charts. Extra parts of line do not authorize a load above the applicable crane rating. It describes freely suspended lifting, rather than dragging an object horizontally along the ground.

Use the in-cab rating manual for the actual crane configuration: the reference brochure is useful for identifying the equipment and required questions, not for substituting another HTC model’s capacities.
