MF 244 DI needs its PM, PD or DYNATRACK identity

The 244 DI name covers more than one driveline. TAFE's Puddling Special launch distinguishes the direct-drive PM from the planetary-drive PD. The separate DYNATRACK 4WD publication describes another axle and transmission arrangement. A power-band comparison alone would miss the differences that matter in a paddy field.

The Puddling Special choice starts with the intended field

TAFE introduced the PM and PD for Andhra Pradesh paddy cultivation. Its stated distinction is dry land or shallow puddling for PM and deep puddling for PD. That is the manufacturer's application guidance, not a published universal soil-depth limit or proof that either machine can cross every soft patch.

The launch also identifies use with a reversible mouldboard plough, thresher, baler and haulage work. The task determines the next specification to check. Tillage needs its fitted driveline and implement connection identified; a stationary powered implement also needs the correct PTO arrangement.

PM and PD share several controls but have different rear-drive entries

The current PM page identifies manual steering, a swept two-wheel-drive front axle, dual clutch and a center-shift partial-constant-mesh gearbox. It calls the rear drive direct drive and names its brake arrangement 5D oil immersed brakes. Those descriptions belong to PM, not every tractor advertised as 244 DI.

The PD sheet retains the two-wheel-drive front axle and manual steering but names Ultra HD PD rear drive. Its PTO is identified as LPTO. The shared engine designation does not make the rear transmission parts or brake-service information interchangeable between the two versions.

DYNATRACK 4WD changes more than the front tires

The DYNATRACK page specifies a powered portal front axle, power steering and a SuperShuttle constant-mesh transmission with equal forward and reverse ratio counts. It also names a dual-diaphragm clutch and Quadra PTO. Those features should not be retrofitted on paper to the two-wheel-drive PM or PD.

Its published wheelbase, ground clearance and linkage-lift entry differ from the Puddling Special sheets. Match the complete variant before selecting transport dimensions or comparing linkage ratings. The retained old two-wheel/four-wheel columns are useful only when their configuration is kept attached to each number.

Agree the exact supplied accessories with the variant

The PM and PD pages both list a transport lock valve, chain stabilising equipment and an oil-pipe kit. Their listed rear-weight packages differ, and the shared campaign page is not consistent with the PM sheet on that item. Obtain the actual supplied weight and implement configuration rather than adding an assumed ballast package to a catalogue weight.
