McCormick model reference
Do not treat an X7 designation alone as a transmission specification. The X7 SWB P6-Drive brochure describes five ranges and six powershift steps, giving 30 forward and 15 reverse speeds, with a creeper option that changes that count. McCormick's X7 VT-Drive reference instead describes a continuously variable transmission.
X7: P6-Drive and VT-Drive are different transmissions
Match the transmission family and fitted options before using either description for a used tractor. A road-speed claim, creeper requirement or preferred control arrangement can eliminate a candidate even when its advertised horsepower is suitable.
P6 control functions and VT speed ranges are different features
The current McCormick X7 SWB reference separates VT-Drive’s programmable speed ranges from P6-Drive’s powershift steps and robotised ranges. For a buyer, that means a speed-range setting on the VT console is not evidence that it has the same stepped gearbox as a P6. Identify the transmission family before comparing operating behavior.
On P6-Drive, the manufacturer describes Smart APS automatic gear selection, a De-Clutch function and Stop & Action integration with the brake pedal. These features affect how repeated stops and direction changes are managed. During an equipment demonstration, establish which controls the operator is using rather than attributing every pause to a manual clutch operation.
The current page also qualifies its larger forward/reverse speed count as a creeper configuration; that count should not be assigned to a tractor without the option.
The X7 SWB hydraulic package needs its option list
The manufacturer’s X7 SWB brochure describes a closed-centre load-sensing implement circuit with a standard pump up to 123 l/min and an optional pump up to 160 l/min. It identifies a separate steering circuit. A headline using the larger pump figure therefore does not establish the hydraulic package on every X7 SWB.
The brochure also distinguishes console-controlled mechanical/electrohydraulic remotes from the multifunction-armrest arrangement. An implement needing several independent functions should be checked against the fitted remotes and flow-divider configuration, not simply the number of connectors photographed at the rear. A selector supplying different functions from a remote is a different arrangement from independently controlled remote valves.
For a practical shortlist, specify the required transmission, creeper, implement-pump option and remote controls together. Then compare the offered tractor against that equipment list. McCormick’s current brochure is specific to its named X7 SWB range; it does not change the gearbox or hydraulic equipment on an older CX, MTX or XTX merely because it carries the same brand.
Saved X7 SWB settings belong in the demonstration
The same X7 SWB brochure distinguishes MyUser profiles from MyHMF headland sequences and MyTractor’s saved operating settings. For a tractor shared by several operators, ask which profile and recalled functions are active during the demonstration. A response that changes after recalling a setting is a different question from a hardware-option difference.
Have the seller identify the saved headland sequence and any reassigned functions before comparing the offered tractor’s controls with another X7; a familiar cab layout does not establish identical settings.
