The A models add a front drive circuit, not just a power label

New Holland's Tier 3A brochure identifies F106.6A and F156.6A as all-wheel-drive versions. Their front wheel motors are supplied hydraulically, with Electronic Drive Control Volume matching front and rear travel. This is distinct from the rear tandem's mechanical drive and No-Spin differential.

Inspect the front-drive equipment and its controls when identifying an A model; the presence of wheel lean or frame articulation alone does not establish front-wheel propulsion.

The brochure also describes dual engine power: the higher output becomes available in the higher forward gears. A single horsepower entry without the gear range and rating standard can conceal that operating distinction. Its load-sensing implement pump and compensated control valves address blade operation, while the front-drive pump serves a different function.

Do not combine the largest pump figure and largest engine figure into an assumed simultaneous grading output. The cited Tier 3A edition identifies a CNH common-rail engine; that edition must stay separate from older reference configurations whose engine data have not been reconciled.

Use the correct workshop information for the fitted grader

New Holland's December 2007 workshop publication covers all four named F106.6 and F156.6 variants, but its introduction expressly describes machines as originally delivered. Later implements and modifications are outside that description. When a used grader carries added grade-control equipment or a changed attachment, the factory manual is a starting reference; identify the added equipment's documentation too.

Its presence cannot be inferred from the original model specifications.

The manual distinguishes technical data, performance testing, troubleshooting and repair instructions. For an uncertain transmission or hydraulic complaint, ask which performance test was completed and what result was recorded before accepting a parts-replacement recommendation. A parts catalogue identifies components; it does not replace the manual's functional tests.

The publication also warns that some illustrations are simplified, so an apparent drawing difference alone does not prove the fitted assembly is wrong. Match the machine's identification and component arrangement to the relevant section, with operating instructions alongside the repair reference.
