45A utility controls and the compact 50B driveline

The 45A's shuttle is synchronized, but its transmission still has constant-mesh gears and ranges. The A-series brochure pairs that gearbox with a dry traction clutch. Check which lever you are moving; a synchronized forward/reverse shuttle does not make the range change synchronized.

The hitch has flexible link ends and telescopic stabilizers. Position control is provided, but the 45A lacks the mechanical draft control listed for the larger A-series models. A rear implement that needs draft response therefore needs more checking than its pin category alone.

The matching loader in that brochure is the L530. Its lift rating is taken at the pivot pins, not at the front edge of a loaded bucket. The brochure also identifies a tool-free loader frame and a separate grille guard that can remain useful without the loader.

50B shuttle, hydrostatic and loader choices

For the Mitsubishi-powered 50B, the October 2011 US equipment schedule describes synchronized gears inside unsynchronized ranges. Hydrostatic buyers instead get three ranges, cruise control and separate direction pedals. Those are different operating arrangements, despite sharing the 50B badge.

The hydrostatic version also has a larger steering-pump specification; that does not increase the implement pump's delivery.

The same schedule rates the 50B engine at 2,700 rpm. Its gear and hydrostatic PTO ratings differ, so the earlier rounded PTO entries should not be read as identical output. For loader comparisons, the listed L350 lifts 2,000 lb at the pins but 1,540 lb at a point 500 mm forward.

Why an air-filter match does not identify the engine

Baldwin lists the same replacement outer and inner air filters for the older Farmall 50 and Mitsubishi 50B, yet their lube-filter entries differ. The Farmall 50 uses the BT8409 application; the 50B uses B227. Its catalog also separates the Farmall 50 cab and ROPS entries, with different original air-filter numbers even where the Baldwin replacements agree.
