Cat 319C LN / 320D / 323D LN: booms and controls

319C LN: offset work and stored tool settings

The 319C brochure offers a conventional one-piece boom, a single-offset boom and a variable-angle boom. Single offset addresses work beside the tracks, such as following a wall or passing pipework. Variable angle changes the working envelope from the cab: retracting the boom brings work closer to the machine, while extending it provides a different reach envelope.

Neither configuration is captured by a single maximum digging-depth figure.

Multipro stores tool pressure and flow presets. The special tool-control joysticks provide modulated switches; the presence of the ordinary joystick alone does not establish that control option. For service access, the right-side door exposes the pump and pilot filter.

The fuel-water separator is in the battery compartment, with a water-level alarm offered as an option. Look there when checking the fitted fuel-service arrangement.

320D: Heavy Lift changes pressure and engine speed

The C6.4-powered 320D schedule describes Heavy Lift as an option. Activating it raises hydraulic pressure while reducing engine speed for lifting control. A slower engine during that selected mode does not by itself establish lost engine performance.

The pilot pump operates independently of the main pumps. Cat also distinguishes the standard auxiliary valve from the attachment control circuits, which are additional equipment. Verify those circuits before selecting a shear or hammer merely because an auxiliary valve is listed.

323D: identify the engine and SmartBoom arrangement

The opened 323D L/LN brochure identifies a turbocharged, aftercooled 3066 engine. Other D-series publications describe C6.4 configurations; the suffix alone cannot select an engine-service specification. This 323D book also describes SmartBoom, which lets the boom follow the surface during scraping or hammer work without using pump flow for that boom movement.

Its tool-control presets store hydraulic flow and pressure settings. Check the actual engine plate and installed boom controls together, because a broad D-series comparison cannot establish every regional option on a particular excavator.
