Identify the F-Series engine and front linkage
Caterpillar's North American 336F L brochure identifies a C9.3 engine, correcting the C15 designation in the earlier reference transcription. It also distinguishes heavy-duty reach, extreme-service reach and mass-excavation fronts. The sticks belong to their matching booms; the mass-excavation digging-force advantage cannot be assigned to every reach configuration just because the carrier says 336F L.
The North American publication describes boom-and-stick oil recirculation from cylinder head ends to rod ends. That is an internal hydraulic arrangement, separate from the attachment circuits offered for work tools. Seeing a quick coupler does not establish which auxiliary kit is fitted or what flow reaches a particular attachment.
Its Grade Control Depth and Slope system provides bucket-position and cut/fill guidance. AccuGrade is identified as an upgrade for three-dimensional control. A used excavator advertised with grade guidance therefore needs a closer equipment check before being priced as a complete three-dimensional system.
Caterpillar AEHQ7156-00, North American 336F L brochure, engine, front linkage, hydraulics and integrated technologiesKeep the Japanese specification package separate
The 2017 Japanese sheet identifies a C9.3 ACERT and gives different net output from the North American edition. Its working-range drawing specifies the R3.2DB stick. The older table below instead names R3.9DB, so replacing its entire reach column with the Japanese drawing would mix two front configurations.
Caterpillar also gives the Japanese machine different minimum- and maximum-weight packages: the counterweight, undercarriage, boom, stick and shoe width change together. Those endpoints are equipped machines, rather than the weight of one identical excavator before and after adding fuel.
For servicing, this sheet separates the hydraulic reservoir from total hydraulic-system capacity. It also lists each final drive independently. Order fluids by the compartment being serviced; the tank entry does not describe a complete system drain.
Attachment control is another equipment-dependent item. The Japanese publication calls its memory for tool pressures and flows an option, while VisionLink reports operating data such as hours, idle time and diagnostic codes. Telematics access does not prove that the tool-control option is installed.
Confirm both functions separately when comparing machines offered with different attachments.
