Identify these older loaders before comparing a sale listing

The 926E and 930R belong to older engine and service-document families. A current 926 or 930 brochure cannot identify their power rating, repair parts or equipped transport weight. The useful comparison begins with the engine and product identification plates, followed by the attachment and tire configuration actually offered for sale.

The 926E handbook uses shipping weight and flywheel power

Caterpillar's former-model register places the 926 and 926E under the same 94Z prefix, but assigns them separate production ranges. The prefix by itself consequently does not distinguish those versions. Read the full machine identification together with its model designation.

The register names the 3204 engine and Z-bar linkage for the 926E. Its weight column is approximate shipping weight; its power column is flywheel horsepower. Those definitions matter when matching a listing to the table.

Shipping weight is not a measured transport weight for a machine carrying a different bucket or other equipment, and flywheel output must not be advertised as gross output.

Read the 930R configuration line, including the serial range

The 930R service excerpt identifies a 3304-powered machine within a specific serial interval. Its publication and update dates identify the service document, not the loader's manufacture date. A seller citing that document has not established the machine's year.

Caterpillar SENR5598-09 excerpt: 930R57Z03017–03999 configuration header

A separate excerpt retains a 930R model heading while its configuration line names a 930T at the later serial break. That distinction is easy to miss in a download title. Match the configuration line to the plate before using the instructions; the shared prefix does not establish that every R and T assembly interchanges.

A cylinder-head replacement needs more than a compatible-model list

Cat lists both 930R and 930T against its 3304 cylinder-head assembly. The part description permits standard or oversize guides and valve inserts, and describes a deck that can be machined during remanufacture. Ask for the head repair record and fitted components when evaluating a rebuilt engine.

A catalogue match cannot establish the condition of that repair or resolve a later engine substitution.

The Yellowmark application list is conditional

Caterpillar's oil sheet independently pairs the 926E with the 3204. Its suitability statement applies to listed engines requiring API CH-4 oil. It is not a transmission-fluid specification.

Keep an engine-oil invoice separate from evidence of the loader's transmission service.
