Cat D7 specifications
Current D7 weights describe different equipped machines
Caterpillar's 65,644 lb D7 entry includes the standard SU blade and a three-shank ripper. The weight note assigns approximately 6,596 lb to that ripper arrangement. The LGP S figure uses a drawbar instead.
Comparing the two published weights as though only the shoes changed would therefore miss a substantial equipment difference.
The LGP installation also combines wider shoes with a straight blade. Its lower ground-pressure entry describes that complete arrangement; it is not a guaranteed pressure for an SU-equipped machine with a ripper and other attachments added. Waste Handler is another configuration, using the landfill blade and specialized protection.
The larger blade volume shown for waste does not establish the same carrying performance in dense soil.

The redesigned D7 uses a four-speed automatic transmission: the operator selects travel speed and the transmission adjusts its gearing. Caterpillar's regional introduction also identifies a dedicated steering pump that helps sustain pushing effort during a loaded turn. These are drivetrain details to establish when comparing it with earlier D7 machines, rather than assuming every machine bearing the number shares its powertrain.
The regional introduction describes the new D7 as a replacement for D7R and lists an emissions package equivalent to US Tier 3 and EU Stage IIIA. The US specification schedule here instead identifies Tier 4 Final and Stage V markets. Both descriptions name C9.3B and the same nominal net power, so engine name and horsepower alone cannot identify the aftertreatment package.
Regional emissions documentation belongs with the machine's build identity.
Structural changes include a heavier frame, D8-class structures and larger roller axles in the redesigned track frame. The regional introduction also describes waste and forestry arrangements with specialized cabs, undercarriages and blades. On an inspection, those protections and the installed rear attachment need to be identified alongside the engine package.
A generic D7 sale listing can span considerably more equipment than a single weight line describes.
