Deere 310 G-Tier and P-Tier: transmissions, engines and controls
310 G-Tier and P-Tier controls answer different needs
Deere’s 310 G-Tier uses a Yanmar 3.3-litre engine and a synchronised manual-range transmission with a hydraulic reverser. The direction lever sits on the steering column; the gear lever and loader lever have clutch cutoffs. Its engine meets the stated Final Tier 4 requirements without exhaust-aftertreatment components.
That combination is useful to identify when a rental or fleet buyer wants to understand the actual service hardware. A G-Tier badge does not establish the larger P-Tier engine or its transmission controls.
The G-Tier’s variable-displacement pump works with power management to balance hydraulic demand and travel demand. Its economy settings can be configured separately for backhoe and loader work. An operator can therefore use the lighter-duty backhoe setting while retaining loader power.
Optional ride control and optional fluid-sampling ports are separate equipment choices, so include them in a comparison only when fitted. Daily checks and fuel filling are accessible from ground level on the machine’s right side.

PowerShift and engine-market differences on the P-Tier
The P-Tier brochure specifies a full PowerShift transmission, with gear selection and forward, neutral and reverse handled by its twist-grip transmission-control lever. Hydraulic clutch packs make the shifts. Its open-center hydraulic arrangement circulates oil even when the functions are neutral, supporting cooling and filtration.
These are specific operating differences to demonstrate alongside the G-Tier’s manual range selection when evaluating two machines for the same work.
Deere’s P-Tier sheet also contains separate engine columns for different emissions markets. The Final Tier 4/EU Stage IV column names the PowerTech EWL and gives a different peak output from the Tier 2/EU Stage II column. Both are described as 4.5-litre engines.
Match the emissions plate to the correct column before comparing advertised horsepower, torque or cooling-fan equipment. Peak output has a stated engine speed as well; it is not a rating that applies unchanged at every throttle setting. Optional limited-slip front drive and its momentary engagement control also need confirmation on the individual machine.

Read the backhoe chart in its operating position
The P-Tier brochure separates boom lift from dipper lift and shows different charts for the ordinary dipperstick and the extendible version in its retracted and extended positions. Its stated lift capacities are over the end, with stabilizers down and tires tangent to the ground. A reach figure measured from the swing pivot also differs from one measured from the rear axle.
Keep the chart’s starting point and dipperstick position attached to the quoted capacity.
