Deere 500C, 610C and 710B: hydraulic tests and serial changes

Three backhoes, separate hydraulic test conditions

The 500C, 610C and 710B do not share one hydraulic performance specification. Deere’s technical sheets separate transmission oil supply from the closed-center implement pump. Keep that distinction when evaluating slow digging or a seller’s pressure-test record.

A transmission-flow reading cannot establish the backhoe pump’s output, even when both readings appear under the same machine heading.

500C: serial breaks change the comparison

The 500C sheet tests transmission-pump flow at its specified transmission pressure and engine speed. Its main hydraulic pump has a separate test at a higher load pressure and a lower engine speed. Deere lists different minimum flows for new and used main pumps.

A useful inspection record needs all of those conditions, not an unexplained gallons-per-minute result.

Two serial breaks are particularly important. The priority-valve specification changes between serials 209476 and 209477, including the engine speed used for the test. The differential-lock valve has another change between serials 161707 and 161708.

Record the serial first. Applying the later setting to an earlier machine could make an otherwise valid reading look wrong.

Backhoe identity matters as well. The same 500C sheet lists separate relief settings for the 9705 and 9500 backhoes. Their swing and boom-raise entries differ.

These are circuit-specific service references, not permission to raise a relief valve until a weak attachment moves faster.

610C: twelve gallons per minute belongs to the transmission

The 610C’s twelve-gallon-per-minute new-pump figure is measured at 1500 rpm and 180 psi in the transmission section. The main implement pump is specified separately at thirty gallons per minute, tested at 2000 rpm and 2000 psi. A used-pump minimum is also listed.

Calling the smaller figure the machine’s implement capacity understates what the separate main-pump test describes.

The steering comparison has its own serial boundary at 734227/734228. Deere gives different steering-wheel turn counts before and after that change, with right-to-left and left-to-right listed separately. Check direction as well as serial when assessing an unfamiliar steering response.

Front-wheel-drive equipment also changes the transmission-hydraulic refill entry, so the options on the actual machine govern the fluid quantity.

710B: identify the installed engine

Deere publishes separate 710B sections for the 6329 and 6359 engine installations. Their rated power and injector-opening references differ, although both sections specify the same main-pump flow test. Order engine parts from the engine identification, not the backhoe’s model number alone.

The published sheet also distinguishes total transmission-hydraulic capacity from the rear-axle and front-axle compartments; they are separate service entries. Use the full technical procedure for pressure testing, including safe support and pressure release.
