The SG and SJ names conceal different engines and controls

The 310SJ engine choice depends on its market. Deere’s J-Series brochure separates the PowerTech E engine for the United States, Canada and Europe from the PowerTech engine sold elsewhere. Their displacement matches, but their emissions standards, torque speeds and ratings differ.

The latter engine is also excluded from the 310SJ TMC specification. A bare “310SJ” description cannot settle an engine-parts order or identify its control package.

Compare the engine plate with the regional column. The lower regional rating remains a valid specification; it should not be silently replaced by the other market’s peak figure.

Which 310SG gearbox is fitted?

The 310SG technical schedule distinguishes a synchronized collar-shift gearbox with hydraulic reverser from the full powershift option. Their reverse-speed rows differ: the synchronized gearbox has a fourth reverse speed, while the powershift row has no fourth reverse entry. Counting four forward gears does not distinguish them.

The 310SG hydraulic schedule also separates the backhoe circuit from the loader circuit. Quoting the smaller loader flow for the entire machine understates the backhoe specification. Its engine-oil refill is another distinct quantity: the oil-and-filter entry is separate from the hydraulic reservoir and transmission capacities.

Specify the compartment before selecting a refill amount.

The 315SG bucket column changes what a lifting figure means

Deere’s 315SG loader table separates breakout force from lifting capacity at full height. The long-lip bucket’s lift figure is not its breakout force. Multipurpose buckets occupy different columns with their own weights and forces, so changing bucket type changes the comparison even when the tractor model stays the same.

The 315SG backhoe also moves laterally on its side-shift frame. Its wall-to-swing-centre dimension describes clearance beside an obstruction; its horizontal reach starts at the swing pivot or rear axle. A reach figure does not tell you how close the carriage can work to a wall.

The 2011 315SJ specification includes pilot controls

The dated 315SJ brochure specifies pilot-operated backhoe controls with pattern selection. That control arrangement deserves a separate check when comparing used machines advertised simply as an SJ. Its side-shift and wall-clearance measurements remain different dimensions.

Deere also lists the hydraulic reservoir separately from the whole hydraulic system. A drained reservoir and an emptied circuit therefore do not use the same refill entry. The typical operating weight includes a cab, powered front axle, extended dipper and a named counterweight; the small cab and axle weights below it are additions, not alternative whole-machine weights.
