Deere 5055D, 5203S and 5204: controls and market editions

The 5055D order sheet and the India-edition 5203S

Deere's North American 5055D ordering information describes a particular two-wheel-drive utility tractor. Its collar-shift gearbox has inline forward and reverse positions, with synchronization between A and reverse; the speed changes themselves are unsynchronized. The right hand selects speeds and the left selects ranges.

That distinction is useful during a demonstration: the advertised gearbox is not the later power-reversing arrangement found elsewhere in Deere's utility range.

The December 2014 sheet separates engine output from PTO output, and gives them at different engine speeds. It lists fifty-five engine horsepower at 2,300 rpm and forty-five PTO horsepower at 2,200 rpm. The earlier forty-seven-horsepower claimed entry remains identified in the reference records.

It should not be substituted for the dated manufacturer's rating, or confused with the independently reported test result below.

Hydraulic flow has another important division. The 5055D's tandem gear pump supplies steering separately from the implement circuit. Deere's total flow includes both branches; an attachment cannot be selected on the assumption that all of it is available at a remote valve.

The order sheet lists a rear selective control valve in the base equipment, while mid-mounted loader valves and an additional rear valve appear among conversion equipment. Check those controls on the actual tractor.

Service parts differ across the models grouped here. Deere's March 2021 guide names RE519626 as the 5045D/5055D engine oil filter. Its May 2022 India-edition guide for the 5203S instead identifies RE507204 for India and T19044 for export.

That guide also distinguishes primary and final fuel filters. Copying a filter number from the neighboring column would miss the market boundary even though both tractors have a similar engine size.

The 5203S service guide shares pages with a 5310, so qualifiers matter. Its MFWD steering-cylinder and several brake-disc entries explicitly name the 5310; they do not establish four-wheel-drive equipment on a 5203S. The capacities sheet similarly labels its extra MFWD transmission entry for the 5310.

Keep those qualifications attached to the numbers. The 5204 remains a separate column because these two opened documents do not establish its complete service schedule.
