Compare the early 5055E and 5065E at the same PTO test condition

The original Nebraska tests identify the early nine-speed, front-wheel-assist tractors. They do not describe every later tractor sold under these names. The laboratory tested the 5055E and 5065E separately, using the same rear tire size and nearly identical test weights.

That makes the measured PTO comparison useful for choosing between these early versions without pretending that the advertised engine numbers measure power at the implement shaft.

Rated engine speed, standard PTO speed and the maximum found along an engine's operating curve are different test points. Keep each output beside its test condition. A mower needing standard PTO speed should not be matched by taking the best horsepower from an unrelated point and assuming it is available at that shaft speed.

The laboratory summary supplies the corresponding engine and PTO speeds so that distinction can be checked.

The hitch result answers a different question from engine output

Nebraska reports the same rear-lift result for this pair at its specified distance behind the hitch points. The larger engine therefore does not establish a higher tested hitch capacity. For a mounted implement, compare its mass and center of gravity with the hitch requirement as well as its PTO demand.

A machine can have enough shaft power while still being a poor match for a heavy implement carried far behind the rear axle.

The test weight includes the tractor as prepared for that test. It is not the shipping weight in the sales reference. Before copying the number into a trailer calculation, identify installed tires, loader, ballast and other equipment.

Likewise, the measured remote hydraulic delivery belongs to a test condition; the sum of steering and implement pump flow is not automatically available from a rear coupler.

Separate this engine generation from later 5E equipment

Both tested tractors use a three-cylinder turbocharged engine of the same displacement. That common size makes the complete engine identification and production version more useful than displacement alone when ordering parts. Current 5E technical literature covers additional transmission and emissions arrangements.

Match the serial range before applying a later PowerReverser or particulate-filter procedure to an early nine-speed machine.

For a used 5065E, distinguish two-wheel drive from front-wheel assist before interpreting the clearance or tire rows. The tested tractor had front-wheel assist; its results do not change the configuration of a separate two-wheel-drive listing. On either model, record the tire sizes physically present.

A mixed reference row is a reason to verify the equipment, not a reason to fit a tire solely because a web table names it.
