John Deere compact and small utility tractor comparisons
Read the small-tractor groups by attachment and transmission
The comparisons here start with smaller Deere tractors but retain their larger siblings in the same tables. Consequently, an individual comparison can include an engine rating above the old 65 hp category label. The grouped 5065M, 5083E and 5093E records illustrate that boundary.
A compact-tractor shortlist and a small utility-tractor shortlist are not interchangeable simply because their first columns have similar horsepower.
For the 3R tractors, Deere's regional 3038R description explains a useful distinction: eHydro uses three hydrostatic ranges and Twin Touch travel pedals, while PowrReverser provides twelve forward and twelve reverse ratios. The latter changes travel direction with hydraulically operated wet clutch packs. It does not make the range changes synchronized.
That difference affects repeated loader cycles and selecting a working range, independently of the engine figure.
The same regional description explicitly excludes mid PTO from PowrReverser-equipped 3R tractors, both as factory equipment and as a later installation. A rear PTO entry therefore cannot establish compatibility with a mid-driven mower. For a used 3038R, the transmission and implement drive need to be identified together before treating two similarly rated machines as equivalent.

Deere's January 2022 3033R ordering pages distinguish an open station with PowrReverser from an eHydro cab configuration. The standard cab package requires eHydro and the specified hydraulic-valve and PTO options. A separate snow-cab package includes rear wiping, rear work lights, a beacon and an engine-coolant heater.
Those are package descriptions for that dated ordering record, not equipment guaranteed on every cab tractor.
Hydraulic kits in that record also depend on model year and operator station. Several power-beyond and rear-valve kits are identified for model-year 2018 and newer tractors, with cab and open-station applications separated. A photograph showing rear couplers is not enough to establish that an attachment's required plumbing is present.
The kit and tractor configuration need to match.
The same ordering pages identify tire-chain interference with an installed backhoe subframe. An otherwise correct tire size does not resolve that restriction. This gives a practical order for choosing among the small Deere comparisons: establish the implement and drive requirements, identify the transmission and operator station, then compare the dated power and hydraulic figures for that configuration.

3038R hood access with the optional vertical exhaust
Deere's regional 3R description includes a specific restriction for the field-installed vertical exhaust: the exhaust pipe must be removed before opening or closing the hood. The front grille also has a service position for battery access. Those access arrangements matter for a tractor kept beneath a low roof or fitted with a loader.
Establish the exhaust installation before assuming that its hood opens like another 3R tractor's.
