John Deere larger excavators: configuration comparisons
Screen these Deere excavators by working geometry
The older 122 hp directory label is not a guarantee about every machine inside a linked multi-model guide. One linked group includes 17G through 50G; another combines construction excavators with forestry configurations. Identify the actual model within that group before comparing it with a larger excavator. For the G-Series candidates below, Deere's own brochures provide more useful distinctions than choosing the highest engine-power entry.
245G LC: rear clearance is different from front reach
Deere describes the 245G LC as a reduced-tail-swing excavator. Its brochure explains a dedicated third hydraulic pump supplying the swing circuit, so combined swing and attachment movements are a different comparison from an engine-power ranking. On a confined street job, assess the rear working envelope as well as the boom and bucket path.
Reduced tail swing does not remove the need to identify obstacles around the front attachment.
The same brochure specifies standard auxiliary hydraulic lines with proportional hand control and flow adjustments through the monitor. Inspect which lines, controls and attachment settings are installed and available on the offered 245G LC. A machine's standard bucket specification does not inventory an optional hammer, thumb or additional hydraulic package included in a sale.
Source: Deere 135G/245G LC manufacturer brochure250G LC: arm length changes the useful comparison
The 250G LC operating-dimension table separates arm lengths rather than giving one universal digging envelope. Its longer-arm column increases reach and digging depth, while the arm-force entry changes. A deep trench requirement and a hard digging requirement therefore need different rows read together.
An advertised maximum depth without the fitted arm length is an incomplete description of that candidate.
Deere's 250G LC weight entry also identifies a bucket, counterweight, operator and track-shoe configuration. Those conditions belong with the mass figure when planning a comparison or transport inspection. The separate component weights help identify what changes when equipment is removed; they do not establish the measured weight of the offered machine.
Source: Deere 250G LC/290G LC manufacturer brochureThe 210G and 210G LC provide another useful check: Deere identifies standard and long undercarriages while listing the same rated engine output for both. Their operating weights differ. Equal horsepower therefore does not establish the same undercarriage or transport package.
This cited edition is Interim Tier 4/Stage IIIB; later emissions equipment must be matched to its own document, rather than inferred from the shared G-Series name.
On this 210G edition, Deere describes automatic DPF cleaning and access to the filter through the top of the engine compartment. Its service illustration places the vertical fuel and engine-oil filters in the right rear compartment. These locations give an inspection a specific starting point: identify the exhaust equipment and inspect the documented service access.
The optional reversing fan is another item to inventory; the brochure describes it as a cooler-cleaning option, so its presence cannot be assumed from the G-Series designation.
