The 690A pump disconnect and the 690B travel system are different features

The 690A brochure describes a mechanical pump disconnect for cold-weather starting. It lets the engine crank without driving the tandem pumps. That feature concerns the load on the starter; it is distinct from the flow-divider control used when travelling and digging together.

During travel, each 690A pump supplies its corresponding track. During digging, both pumps supply the implement and swing functions. The flow dividers share delivery when both jobs occur together, so the total published flow cannot be treated as a separate full supply for each function simultaneously.

The 690A also uses mechanical adjustment for track and propel-chain tension. Its engine-oil and swing-gearbox entries are quart quantities, while the hydraulic-system and fuel entries are gallons. Identify the compartment and unit before using a refill figure.

What changed in the 690B undercarriage and controls?

Deere’s 690B sheet describes two-speed hydraulic propel motors with planetary drives and wet multidisc brakes. The brakes release during propulsion and apply when stationary. Its rollers and idlers use metal-faced seals, while hardened slides support the upper track.

The listed roller total is not a count of overhead carrier rollers.

The 690B also lists pilot-operated hydraulic controls, with manual controls among its optional equipment. Check the actual control installation before ordering control-related parts. Standard-gauge and wide-gauge operating weights are both stated without the bucket; adding a heavier bucket changes the complete-machine load.

A reported high-idle repair involved the injection-pump controls

A 690B owner reported excessive unloaded speed after the engine warmed up, despite earlier fuel-filter and check-valve work. Replies distinguished the high-speed stop from checking whether the injection-pump lever reached its idle stop. The owner’s follow-up reported success after an adjustment at the pump.
