John Deere compact and mid-size excavators: crawler and wheeled choices

Read the undercarriage before the horsepower column

The wheeled 180CW, 210CW and 220DW references belong beside crawler excavators for specification lookup, but their support arrangements need a different comparison. Deere's D-Series wheeled brochure distinguishes a blade with rear outriggers from four-outrigger equipment. It also separates a monoblock front from a two-piece boom.

Choose that configuration before opening a lifting chart; equal engine output does not make the support footprint or close-in reach equal.

Attachment plumbing has its own limit. Deere describes low-flow assist hydraulics separately from a dealer-installed high-pressure, high-flow auxiliary package. A listing that mentions auxiliary controls does not prove that the larger circuit is fitted.

For pavement work, identify tires, blade, outriggers and boom first, then compare the particular machine's reach and load chart with the crawler alternative.
