John Deere 6100D to 6115D: engine generations, filters and hitch options

Identify the 6D generation before comparing its controls

John Deere's May 2015 DSAA62103 brochure describes 6105D and 6115D tractors with Interim Tier 4 PowerTech engines. That later configuration should be separated from the Tier 3 6100D and 6115D service guide. A shared 6115D badge does not establish a single emissions system or parts list across those publications.

The later brochure offers a standard PowrReverser transmission and an optional Hi-Lo version. Both use an electrohydraulic direction reverser and a wet clutch. The older repair-manual preview, TM605019, lists collar-shift, top-shaft-synchronized and PowrReverser ground-speed sections separately.

A repair estimate for a clutch or reverser needs the actual transmission arrangement. The family name alone is insufficient.

Rear hitch capacity needs an equipment description

The 2015 brochure distinguishes the standard Category II hitch from a heavier-duty option. Its capacity is measured behind the hitch point, not at the link ends. The optional package changes which figure belongs to the tractor.

The same brochure identifies draft sensing as optional. Hitch category, maximum lift and draft control describe different features; one does not prove that the others are present.

There are useful loader distinctions in that document too. H260 and H310 appear as 6D-compatible loader choices, with non-self-levelling and mechanical-self-levelling arrangements. Deere associates its false-rod bucket-cylinder feature specifically with mechanical self-levelling configurations.

A loader's model and levelling arrangement therefore belong in a cycle-time or attachment comparison, not just its paint colour.

The older filter guide follows engine identity

Deere's April 2022 Tier 3 guide groups secondary fuel filters by engine code and model year. The earlier 6100D group, later 6100D group and another 6115D engine arrangement do not all use the same secondary element. The common primary-filter entry does not remove that difference.

Read the engine identification before ordering a complete service kit.

That guide also separates the cab's fresh-air and recirculation filters from engine intake filtration. Cleaning one cab filter does not service both air paths. For fluid work, the MFWD axle housing and each wheel hub have separate capacity entries; the hub quantity is per side.

The transmission-case quantity belongs to another compartment.

Oil-change timing has a qualification as well. The guide gives a shorter interval for a stated engine-serial range when the specified oil standard is not met, and it retains a yearly change requirement. Copying only the longest hour interval would omit conditions that the manufacturer printed alongside it.
