Deere 755D crawler loader: drive, buckets and controls

The bucket-equipped 755D and its control settings

The 755D is Deere's crawler loader, with a loader boom and bucket ahead of its tracks. Deere's July 2007 publication identifies the 6068H engine and a dual-path hydrostatic drive. References below to a compact 755 tractor concern another machine: its three-point hitch and PTO brake complaints do not establish faults on this crawler loader.

Two independent hydrostatic paths let the operator vary the tracks' speeds and counterrotate them. There are no steering clutches to adjust as part of that steering arrangement. Braking still has its own functions.

Returning the direction lever to neutral produces dynamic braking, while a separate wet-disc parking system applies under the conditions Deere lists. Those include an engine stop and the direction control remaining neutral for more than seven seconds. Parking engagement under those conditions is an intended action, not by itself a failed drive.

Total Machine Control makes response adjustable. Its settings include deceleration, the forward-to-reverse change rate, maximum groundspeed and the reverse-speed ratio. A demonstration with an unfamiliar setting can therefore feel different from another 755D without proving a worn pump.

Record the settings before comparing travel response. Deere's specification table gives a high travel speed of 6.2 mph, although the same brochure's feature text says 6.8 mph; this internal discrepancy remains identified instead of silently replacing one with the other.

Bucket choice changes the load figures. The standard toothed bucket is listed at 3.14 cubic yards heaped. The multipurpose bucket is smaller at 2.62 cubic yards, weighs more and has its own lower tipping and breakout figures.

Its opening jaws add handling functions, while standard loader controls already include return-to-dig, boom float and height kickout. Those control features do not mean every advertised machine has the multipurpose attachment.

Service access is unusually specific to this chassis. The operator station tilts for access without disconnecting its hydraulic lines, wiring or control linkages. Planetary final drives mount to the mainframe, and their double-seal arrangement has an electronic integrity warning.

Deere describes an oil leak between the seals as a condition that the cab indicator can report. Retain that warning's meaning when assessing a used unit; it is more useful than assuming every dashboard light indicates an engine fault.
