Dressta TD7M–TD10R: M and R drives, track frames and engine differences

M-Series controls versus the later R-Series specification

Dressta's announcement of the small M-Series is dated February 7, 2007. It names TD-7M, TD-8M, TD-9M and TD-10M, with the transmission and steering operated by the left joystick and the blade operated from the right. The announcement identifies a direct-drive option as well as the torque-converter arrangement.

Neither should be mistaken for a hydrostatic drive merely because the machine uses joystick controls.

The manufacturer also singles out the standard TD-7M as the exception to its six-roller undercarriage description. That matters when comparing a short standard machine with a longer or low-ground-pressure version. Counting bottom rollers and identifying the track frame provides a more useful description of the offered dozer than horsepower alone.

The TD-10M's own March 2012 sheet identifies a Tier 2 QSB4.5. Its 51-liter hydraulic figure includes the cylinders and lines; 70 liters belongs to transmission and steering. The drawing's longer equipment dimension includes both blade and ripper.

Neither that length nor the hydraulic refill should be relabeled from an adjacent transmission or bare-machine entry.

R-Series engines, pedals and service access

The February 2012 R-Series booklet separates the smaller QSB3.3 engines from the TD-10R's QSB4.5. The TD-8R reaches its published rating at a different speed from the TD-7R and TD-9R. Engine displacement and rated speed consequently need their own model columns; the shared hood shape does not make the engine settings identical.

The R-Series drive remains a countershaft powershift with clutch-and-brake steering. Its safety lever neutralizes the joystick and applies the parking brakes. Dressta places the powertrain filter and diagnostic panel in the left compartment beside the seat; the equipment hydraulic filter and pressure-check access are on the right.

These locations help distinguish which circuit a service record actually describes.

On the published TD-7R chassis table, STD has five bottom rollers and LT/LGP have six. TD-10R STD and LGP both have six, but their shoes and ground-contact lengths differ. Cab and canopy operating weights are separate again.

Match those physical choices before using a ground-pressure or transport-weight entry.

Forestry equipment has its own build scope

The forestry application booklet distinguishes R-Series machines from the later S LT machines beside them. Its TD-8R and TD-9R use QSB3.3 engines; the S LT columns identify QSF3.8 engines and different emissions equipment. Read the complete model suffix when ordering an engine-related part.

Dressta describes canopy sweeps and screening packages for the small forestry dozers, plus special factory arrangements for fire-plow work. A winch-equipped machine also needs the corresponding rear protection considered. The brochure discusses direct drive for the sustained travel of fire-plow applications; that application discussion does not make every M- or R-Series dozer a direct-drive machine.

Establish the transmission and installed protection together.
