Komatsu D61EX-23, D65PX-15E0 and D85P-21E: drive and fit

D61EX-23: quick-shift ranges are not a mechanical three-speed transmission

The D61EX-23 uses a dual-path hydrostatic transmission. Its Quick Shift mode offers preset speed ranges, while Variable Speed mode allows continuous adjustment. Counting the Quick Shift entries as mechanical gears misidentifies the drive.

During a demonstration, record the chosen mode before judging how the tractor responds to changing load.

EX and PX undercarriages are different arrangements in the same brochure. The wider PX shoes and higher PX operating weight should not sit in an EX specification column. The EX's blade width also exceeds its width over tracks; the blade determines another part of the transport envelope.

The radiator sits behind the cab, with a reversible swing-up hydraulic fan. Engine filters are accessed toward the front of the engine compartment. Those locations make the cooling and service inspection different from an older front-radiator dozer.

Examine the actual air path and service access before attributing an overheating complaint to an engine component.

D65PX-15E0: TORQFLOW propulsion and HSS steering share an inspection

The D65PX-15E0's TORQFLOW drive combines a torque converter with an electrically controlled planetary clutch transmission. Its Hydrostatic Steering System uses steering planetary units and an independent hydraulic pump and motor. A steering complaint therefore needs its own operating description; it is not enough to say the tractor has three forward speeds.

Komatsu places the transmission and HSS filters, powertrain oil gauge and hydraulic tank together on the machine's right side. The monitor shows engine speed and selected travel gear, then action codes when abnormalities occur. Record the full display information instead of reducing an intermittent warning to a guessed component failure.

The December2006 export specification distinguishes tractor weight from operating weight with blade, cab and ROPS. It also identifies final-drive refill per side. Treating one housing's refill as a combined total would omit the other side; treating tractor weight as equipped operating weight would omit listed equipment.

D85P-21E: preserve the complete engine identification

Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism lists the D85P-21E as a wetland bulldozer in its first-stage exhaust-control designation register. The entry names Komatsu and identifies the engine as S6D125E-2-A. The neighbouring D85A-21E entry has a different machine classification, including ripper equipment.

The register establishes a designation and engine combination. It does not supply the load and attachment conditions needed for a particular machine's transport weight. Retain the full P-21E designation and photograph its engine plate before ordering parts.

A shortened engine-family code in a reference table cannot establish every suffix used on an imported tractor.
