Komatsu D65-15 to D65-17: blade packages and power train

D65-15 and D65-17 blade packages are not the same

Komatsu's 2006 D65-15 brochure describes the WX as combining the EX's track-contact length with the PX's track gauge. The WX PAT version is then listed separately: its longer ground contact and additional lower roller distinguish it from the other WX blade arrangements. Inspect that chassis configuration before treating a PAT machine as a blade swap.

The dash-15 shift preset stores a forward/reverse gear combination. Automatic downshift is a different function, responding to engine speed, selected gear and falling travel speed; the operator can cancel it. During a demonstration, establish which function is active before interpreting a repeated gear change as a transmission fault.

ECMV clutch modulation and HSS steering have separate duties in the published power train.

The dash-15 right-side service station groups transmission/HSS filters, the power-train level gauge and hydraulic tank. Its monitor alternates the user code and service-meter display when an operating abnormality occurs. Record that code in context.

A warning from an older D60 or D65A forum account is not a component diagnosis for this electronic-control generation.

The dash-17 adds emissions and converter distinctions

The European D65-17 publication identifies a cooled-EGR engine with a variable-geometry turbocharger and diesel particulate filter. Its monitor reports filter status. The brochure distinguishes active/passive regeneration from the later maintenance task of replacing a used filter cartridge.

Neither process is equivalent to cleaning the reversible radiator fan.

Automatic converter lock-up is another dash-17 feature in this publication. The power train can return to converter operation when torque demand requires it. Power/Economy engine selection and automatic/manual shifting are separate choices, so compare machines with those settings identified.

Blade selection changes both mass and transport width. The European schedule gives different equipped weights for WX Sigmadozer and WX INPAT machines. It also offers a fold-up INPAT on WX/PX versions, with an added-weight entry and a separate folded transport width.

Verify the hinge, locks and actual blade configuration before using that folded-width claim. A fixed blade with the same cutting width does not gain the folding option.
