Komatsu H455S to H655S specifications

H455S front arrangements and H655S mining-service scope

These H-series machines belong to mining-shovel selection. The H455S needs a front-shovel or backhoe configuration before its working range can be compared, while the H655S has a separate replacement history. Their historical capacities and support requirements cannot be inferred from a modern small construction excavator's model code.

The H455S comparison distinguishes tank oil from the complete hydraulic system

A period manufacturer comparison in Hitachi's EX5500-5 product information lists the H455S and PC5500 in separate columns. Their shared weight class does not make all capacities interchangeable. In particular, the H455S oil-tank row differs from its total hydraulic-oil row.

A tank quantity alone is not enough to plan a complete system fill.

That comparison also separates loading-shovel and backhoe front arrangements. Bucket heaping standards change the stated volume, and the front's crowding range is listed separately from maximum digging reach. Establish the front type and bucket convention before using a capacity for truck matching.

The period table labels gross and net engine output separately. Retain that distinction when reviewing an engine replacement or a performance claim; the numerical heading matters as much as the engine name. The H655S figures below remain a separate record and are not replaced with the neighboring PC5500 column.

Komatsu's H655S replacement account describes mining support, not a parts cross-reference

The September 1998 Down2Earth issue identifies the H655S as the replacement for H485-SP. Its Cadia account describes dedicated maintenance support for the new shovels, with an older H485 available for extra excavation. Replacement in the product range does not prove that a used H485 component fits an H655S.

The report's projected operating hours belong to a planned mine life. They are not a measured rebuild interval or a guarantee for a machine now offered used. Maintenance records should show actual engine, pump and undercarriage work instead of substituting that historical forecast for evidence.

That distinction also changes the buying question. Establish which assemblies remain from the original installation, which have been rebuilt and what support is available for the installed equipment. The article documents a mine-specific support arrangement; it does not establish that the same arrangement accompanies another H655S sale.
