PC09-1 engine and serial range come first

Komatsu’s SEBM026105 shop manual covers both the 2D68E-N3C and 2D70E-5SBA installations. Its specification for serial 12001 onward identifies the 569 cc 2D70E engine, a tandem gear pump and a variable-gauge undercarriage. The same section gives minimum ground clearance as 170 mm.

That is separate from the much larger counterweight-clearance dimension.

The lubricant table distinguishes specified system capacity from refill quantity and places later-serial values in parentheses. It also identifies the final-drive case quantity per side. A hydraulic refill number therefore cannot be used as a total-system capacity, and neither describes both final drives together.

Match the serial notes before ordering fluids.

The later European integrated-breaker arrangement

The October 2022 European brochure identifies a different 522 cc 2D68E-3A installation. It describes an optional arm with an integrated demolition breaker: the point is installed without removing the bucket. The breaker arm and TOPS canopy each add weight to the brochure’s standard rubber-track configuration.

Those options should not disappear from a transport calculation.

A dedicated control extends the undercarriage from the operator’s seat. The narrow setting helps passage through doorways; the extended setting supplies a different support width for digging. Check that the tracks and blade extensions move through their intended positions.

The brochure also describes a cast body, metal bonnet and tubular boom that houses the hydraulic hoses. Those physical features help identify the arrangement being inspected.

What the repeated arm-cylinder report actually established

A rental-yard employee’s 2012 discussion describes repeated bent arm cylinders, earlier misuse and uncertainty about whether the installed cylinder was original. Replies proposed checking the relief setting, boom alignment, pins and bushings. The owner later reported a pressure test and a change to the control plumbing, but remained skeptical of the explanation.

No confirmed part measurement or long-term outcome followed.

That account is useful as an inspection lead, not proof that every PC09 has the same defect. Record the fitted cylinder and inspect its mounting geometry before assuming that replacing another rod will explain repeated bending. The factory manual’s ten-spool control-valve section lists two main relief valves; the forum’s claim about one control pattern does not replace that hydraulic diagram.
