Komatsu PC210LCi-10 and PC270-8: controls and tracks
Grade control on the PC210LCi; undercarriage choice on the PC270
The PC210LCi-10 is not a smaller PC270 with the same controls. Its factory machine-control package reads stroke-sensing cylinders, an inertial measurement unit and GNSS receivers against a loaded design surface. Grade assist adjusts the boom while the operator moves the arm.
Auto stop limits boom or bucket movement at the target, while minimum-distance control selects the nearest point on the bucket when approaching a slope obliquely. Switch Auto off and the system provides guidance without that intervention. A working display alone does not demonstrate automatic control.
Komatsu's North American PC210LCi brochure separates the machine-control screen from ordinary excavator operation. Bucket-edge selection, GNSS reception and a vertical design offset have separate controls. Check the selected edge and design before judging the displayed distance.
The hydraulic specification is also distinct: its six work modes and 475 L/min pump schedule belong to the intelligent model, not the older PC270 pair. Its refill table separates the hydraulic reservoir from the complete hydraulic system. Filling to a whole-system quantity after a tank-only drain would confuse those two measures.
Original Komatsu PC210LCi-10 brochure, control functions and specificationsThe PC270-8 and PC270LC-8 instead share the SAA6D107E-1 and the two-pump control arrangement in Komatsu's CEN00349-03. The longer LC track frame adds a roller and more shoes on each side. Its extra contact length is an undercarriage difference, not an intelligent grading package.
Shoe width also changes the quoted ground pressure and operating weight. The brochure's LC width drawing uses wider shoes than its narrow-shoe weight row, so those measurements should not be treated as one identical equipped machine.
For the PC270 generation, the brochure's fuel-priority and work-priority selections alter the operating emphasis; the eco gauge indicates operation, not an automatic design-surface stop. Its optional heavy-duty travel motor changes the travel-speed and drawbar-pull figures together. Keep that option visible when comparing climbing performance.
The same publication lists air conditioning and rear-view monitoring as options. A pressurized cab description does not prove either is installed. Long greasing intervals also depend on optional bushings and shims, with the bucket pins excluded; they are not a blanket interval for every pivot.
