Komatsu PC300-1: N-855-C engine installation and three stick options

The PC300-1 has an N-855-C installation

Komatsu's original engine shop manual groups the PC300-1 with the PC300-2 and their LC versions under the N-855-C. The NT and NTA installations occupy separate model groups. A Cummins family name without that suffix is insufficient for choosing the illustrated installation or service section.

The PC300 engine's performance curve is labelled flywheel horsepower and gives the speed at that rating. RitchieSpecs calls its matching horsepower figure gross power. Preserve the different labels: an equal number does not establish an identical rating standard.

The Komatsu book identifies a PT fuel pump and VS governor. Its engine views also distinguish the oil filter from the bypass filter. A filter described merely as “for an 855” does not identify which position it serves.

Use the installed engine's identification and the actual filter position.

Komatsu provides PC300-specific assembly views, including the fuel-return connection and oil-warning connection. Those installation details matter when identifying a removed engine or comparing a replacement. The manual's engine serial range is separate from the excavator's own identity.

Three sticks produce three different working envelopes

The PC300-1 reference listing separates 2,500, 3,080 and 4,080 mm sticks. Its shortest-stick block carries the shipping length and height, as well as the corresponding digging figures. The other blocks describe longer fronts; they do not repeat a transport specification for every arrangement.

With the shortest stick, listed maximum digging depth is 21.46 feet. The longest-stick entry reaches 26.65 feet. Loading height and horizontal reach change too.

A seller's single maximum-depth claim therefore needs the stick identity; it does not describe every PC300-1 with a similar counterweight.

Cab height is listed independently from shipping height. That distinction prevents the cab measurement from being substituted for the complete folded front when planning clearance. Check the attached bucket and actual transport posture as well.

The reference also prints track gauge, shoe width and overall track width separately. These measurements answer different access questions: gauge describes the track layout, while the outside width describes the space occupied by the shoes. Neither dimension specifies the clearance needed by an attachment carried across a narrow entrance.
