Tadano AR250E–RTF40-3: engine duties, carrier controls and extensions
ATF30-2L uses the carrier engine for crane work
The original ATF30-2L book shows a common engine supplying both travel and crane functions. It identifies OM906LA in the carrier and explicitly says the upper pumps are driven by that engine. A second-engine specification from a larger ATF would therefore describe a different arrangement.
The book also publishes separate engine operating points for those duties. Its carrier rating is measured at a higher speed than the stated crane-operation rating. These figures should stay with their test conditions; they are not evidence of an unexplained power loss when the operator changes stations.
The two-axle carrier uses a ZF6WG210 powershift with a hydrodynamic converter and lock-up from first gear. The upper cab can command hydrostatic steering of both axles, while the carrier cab uses mechanically connected front steering with hydraulic assistance. That distinction matters when describing which cab controls a steering function.
A standard single-person carrier cab and an optional two-person cab appear separately in the equipment list. The crane also has alternative folding extensions and optional extra counterweight. Its base configuration must be identified before applying an extension chart or assuming that two listings contain the same equipment.

RTF40-3 adds another axle and different boom-extension choices
The RTF40-3 technical book describes a three-axle chassis, with separate road and off-road drive arrangements. Its rear axle has individual wheel suspension, and the hydro-pneumatic suspension can be locked and levelled. These are chassis differences, not alternative names for the AR250E or AR300E specification columns.
The four-section RTF main boom is separate from its optional lattice extensions. The booklet lists a single folding extension and a double-folding assembly with different lengths, both with selectable offsets. A maximum hook-height advertisement needs the extension and offset identified; the longest assembly alone does not select a lifting capacity.
Counterweight changes the chart selection too. The book distinguishes its ordinary installation from a heavier optional set. The slewing system has its own foot-controlled service brake and parking brake, while the main winch uses a spring-loaded multidisc holding brake.
A report that simply says “the crane brake” leaves several different systems unresolved.
The smaller AR250E and AR300E reference columns retain their own engine, carrier and boom entries here. Order parts and operating documents against the complete machine identity. The Faun drive-system descriptions above explain the named ATF30-2L and RTF40-3, and should not be transferred to those AR machines.
