CASE 421G and 521G: hydrostatic drive, powershift and loader fronts

421G hydrostatic drive versus 521G powershift

The 421G and 521G have different drivelines. CASE’s North American 421G sheet identifies a hydrostatic transmission, with an electronic forward/neutral/reverse switch on the loader joystick. Its engine is the 3.6 L FPT F5MGL413J.

The steering and implement pump figures are separate from the hydrostatic-drive pump specification; using the larger drive-pump number to select a hydraulic attachment would compare the wrong circuit.

The 421G sheet also gives two clearances: 13.7 inches under the shaft and 19.2 inches under the axles. Both belong to the same published drawing. Neither is the cab height.

Its 19,775 lb operating weight includes the specified Michelin tires, bucket with edge, full fuel and an operator. Fork and light-material-bucket performance appears in separate tables, so bucket breakout force must not be described as a fork lifting allowance.

What the 521G linkage and coupler change

For the 521G, the July 2024 specification lists a four-forward, three-reverse electronically controlled powershift with a torque converter. A brake-pedal transmission-disconnect function is included. The parking brake is on the transmission output shaft and neutralizes power flow to the wheels when engaged.

Those details are relevant when investigating a machine that starts normally but will not travel; a report about a different CASE series does not establish the cause.

The same document distinguishes Z-Bar, extended-reach XR and parallel-lift XT fronts. In its Z-Bar performance table, the 2.1 cubic yard bolt-on-edge pin-on bucket gives a 24,203 lb operating weight. The corresponding JRB-coupled configuration is 25,006 lb.

Their full-height dump clearances differ too. Preserve that attachment distinction when comparing a seller’s weight with a haulage limit. CASE also separates rigid-tire and deflected-tire tipping loads; they are not duplicate ratings to choose between at will.

The European 421G launch describes a different package

CASE’s March 2025 European launch describes EU Stage V emissions equipment and a two-speed hydrostatic transmission. It lists cruise control, ECO operation and creep as standard. The American equipment list places creep among the options.

The European release also describes limited-slip axles with a differential-lock option. Check the actual market specification before treating those features as universal.

That release quotes 72 kW rated output and 84 kW peak output for the 3.6 L engine. The North American sheet prints its own power pair and test basis. Keep those publications separate.

A shared 421G badge does not make their output labels, attachment-flow options or standard-equipment lists interchangeable.
