JCB excavator specifications

Choose the front equipment before comparing JCB excavators

The linked JCB groups include compact diggers, conventional tracked excavators and wheeled machines. Within the tracked references, boom arrangement can matter more than a nearby horsepower entry. The JZ140 and 220X publications illustrate different questions to settle before choosing a configuration: clearance and working envelope for the former, then front equipment and hydraulic options for the latter.

JZ140: compare the monoboom with the articulated arrangement

The JZ140 LC manufacturer sheet separates a monoboom from T.A.B. equipment. Its working-range tables show that the articulated arrangement changes the digging envelope; a reach advantage does not automatically mean a depth advantage. Read the dipper column alongside the boom type when a seller quotes a maximum working dimension.

The same document distinguishes ordinary and dozer-equipped weight and lifting tables. Its lift-chart notes require the bucket or bucket-and-quickhitch mass to be subtracted from the no-bucket values, and identify firm, level ground as a condition. A blade-equipped example therefore needs its own chart and fitted-equipment inventory.

This cited sheet describes an EU Stage V engine; it cannot establish the emissions equipment of an earlier JZ140 simply because the name matches.

220X: do not infer attachment equipment from the base engine

The North American 220X brochure offers monoboom, long-reach and T.A.B. front equipment. Those choices change which working-range and lifting tables apply. It also lists several auxiliary pipework arrangements, including hammer, merged-pump, auxiliary and low-flow options.

A base engine rating does not identify which of these circuits the offered excavator carries.

JCB describes adjustable proportional attachment control and a tool-selection function that manages pressure and flow. Inspect the actual pipework and controls, then match them to the attachment requirement. The brochure's equipment table separates standard display settings from optional advanced tool control; a screen showing an attachment menu is not proof that every hydraulic option is fitted.

The 220X publication additionally gives separate relief settings for ordinary implement operation and power boost. Its boost description is time limited. Compare sustained operating requirements using the applicable ordinary setting, rather than treating the temporary boost as an attachment's continuous pressure allowance.

These details concern the cited 220X edition, not every older JS-series machine in the catalogue.
