• Introduction. Hesston by Massey Ferguson introduced the PTO-driven MF1844S and MF1844N three-tie small square balers in March 2013; the 1844S makes 15 by 22 inch three-twine bales and the 1844N slightly larger 16 by 22 inch bales, 36 to 48 inches long and about 145 lb in alfalfa, with hydraulic density control. • Hesston in-line design. Hesston's 1800 Series brochure explains that the baler sits in line behind the tractor and straddles the windrow, so crop follows a straight path from the pickup to the bale chute with no right-angle turns, and the 1844N and 1844S transport only 8 ft 6 in wide.
