Massey Ferguson harvest equipment: balers, combines and feeding choices
Small rectangular balers: follow the crop path and the fitted equipment
The MF1835, MF1837 and MF1839 brochure describes a centre-line crop path. After pickup, centring augers direct the crop into a pre-forming chamber; stuffer fingers form the slice before the plunger compresses it in the bale chamber. This is a useful inspection sequence for those balers.
Check pickup feeding, the pre-forming mechanism and the bale chamber as connected stages instead of judging the whole machine from its plunger speed.
The MF1839 adds a four-bar pickup in that brochure, while gauge wheels support the pickup over uneven ground. A wider pickup and a heavy-duty arrangement answer different questions from bale dimensions. Match the equipment to the windrows and annual workload before choosing between these machines.
Hydraulic pickup lift and hydraulic bale tension are listed as options. Inspect for the fitted components; a model name alone does not establish either feature. Manual spring-loaded density control remains a distinct arrangement, and a tractor's available hydraulic connections must suit the equipment actually installed.
The combine harvesters and larger balers below serve different harvest jobs. Their engine output or finished-bale size cannot be used as a substitute for these small-baler feeding and tying checks. Use the linked comparison for the selected machine, keeping its crop-processing system and required tractor connection together.
